Current wet weather problem?

Featured Replies

With the heavy rain over yesterday my fabia seem very damp inside. I cant feel any wet patches nor can I find any puddles. But the car is misting up most of the time. And generally just feels damp inside.

Anyone else been having a issue? It is just the weather or might it be a leak that I cant find?

Also I've noticed the seat belts are damp and dont want to retract that well.

could be the rear doors?

One trick i believe came up that i've tried... leave the vents open and the dial twisted towards face and feet overnight, apparently it lets the car 'breath'.... well it works. 12Volts has been sitting since march and is as dry as a wistle inside even after all this rain.

I was thinking the rear doors too, but I felt under the mats abd it doesn't seem wet at all.

I will try the vent thing for now and see if that helps, though my car does stand on the drive without use for about 4-5 days.

Anyone else get a sound of water runner behide the dash when it rains? (I'm guess it's normal maybe?)

hi Mike , i think i read recently that leaves and general debris can block the drain holes under the windscreen scuttle panel , this could be the water noise , also if the seatbelts are slow to retract like you say , i would say there is water getting in somewhere to get them damp , i'd pull the carpets back to check the underfelt/sound deadening material esp in the rear as its not always obvious that the rear doors are leaking

Hi Mike

Yes, and have driven past lots of recently parked cars which look like steam baths. I think the usual answer is to switch the aircon on with the outside air switched off  I do leave two opposing windows open the merest fraction (assuming it's not raining) in this hot and wet weather.

I had a friend with a Megane which was constantly steaming up. She had had the car about six months. She gave me a lift with her husband and I sat in the back seat and she told me about the problem. I looked at the my side window to find it was down a 1/4" - it had been since she got it!

I find that the rear windows occasionally drop just slightly with temperature changes so check they are fully up.

Rich,

I will have a look, I've had a quick feel (no misquotes please) and it doesn't seem to be very wet, just a little damp (almost as if it was a cold day type dampness).

I've also noticed a slight puddle on the pastic by the rear door, which I seem to remember is the tell tale sign of the rear door issue (is it not?).

Mo, my aircon doesn't work either it's another on my list to do jobs. I've own a few cars in my time but none have felt as damp as the fabia or misted up as quickly.

I guess it's a trip to a dealer then.

deffo sounds like rear door inner panel seals Mike , any idea why the aircon doesn't work ?

In typical Heath Robinson mode, I'm wondering if that absorbent strip is still available. It came on a roll (like a big roll of Sellotape) and was designed for soaking up condensation on window ledges when aluminium double glazing was fitted. If you could sit some on your ledge, it would hopefully stop the water running into the carpet till you get the leak fixed.

A previous old car went rusty under the carpet from a leak (it was sopping underneath even though the surface didn't feel particularly wet.) Don't know how easy it is to lift carpets in modern cars to dry them out, and also to find out what's going on underneath.

Sorry, not much help, but good luck regardless.

I dont think there will be issues of rust Mo, these cars are fully galvanised, and have a 12 year anti-perforation warranty!

However, soggy carpets sure IS an issue.

I find with most modern cars, steaming up is hard to overcome - especially if air con isn't fitted. I think its to do with how well insulated modern cars are.

I'll try the leaving the vents open trick - gotta be worth a go.

Luckily the Corsa doesn't suffer too much, and the aircon cleans the screen almost instantly! :)

My vRS doesn't steam up at all, i don't do anything special with the vents or aircon, i just turn off the engine and get out..... Also my last car (CTR) didn't have AC and that only used to steam up when it was frosty on the outside of the glass.....

That's also my experience with all the air con cars I've ever owned. Air con left on all the time with the fan set to 1 (in manual air con cars) and just set to auto on cars with climate. :D
