fabia estate handbrake

Featured Replies

Any body else had this?? My car has had a history of handbrake problems: self adjusters do not work. SKODA claim that they are not meant to self adjust any way!!!!!!!!!!!! On investigation , I found that the adjusting nut on the cable compensator ( seen through the ashtray thing rear end of console ) had been screwed as far as it would go to mask the fact that the spot welds holding the hand brake mounting plate to the car floor pan had failed!! Skoda customer service declined to help as car was out of warranty, dealers would not quote a price, just charge for as long as it took. I removed the centre console to gain access and drilled straight through floor and bolted it with a large plate underneath ; 25 cm by 5cm by 8mm using 8mm bolts. PERFECT!!

No, I haven't heard of it, but I certainly take a look now!!

Thanks.

Now ours has stopped holding on the handbrake on a hill and I was just wondering where the adjusting screw is so I shall have a look at that and see if the welds are still intact! I guess I can adjust the handbrake at the same time if needed as well!

I have come across that before where the handbrake lever complete with floor that it is bolted to have been pulled out. Apparently the car was an ex driving school car.

Apparently the car was an ex driving school car.

for stunt drivers

yeah its quite easy to adjust a bent spanner is handy but can be done with a normal spanner, scary though if the welds have failed though
