Vnt3

Featured Replies

I've been looking at the VNT3 Turbo a lot over the past day or two. I spoke to a guy at Allard's today who said, i would not need to upgrade the injectors if i wish to leave the boost under 225hp.

Can anyone confirm ? I always thought you'd need bigger injectors.

You can get 'around' 220-225 ponies on the standard Injectors, but thats really as far as they go,

Thanks a lot mate. That's all i needed...... :D

to make that sort of power you will need an insane boost pressure..... the standard interccoler wont be able to cope with that.... even the special front mounting jobbies will need to be 'strapped' to stop them blowing out. it might be worth fitting a set of pd150 rods and pistons too...

Probably not as high as you think. The bigger, more efficient turbos tend not to heat the air so much for a given boost level. The air is therefore denser, contains more oxygen and makes more power. 2 different spec turbos producing the same boost will not produce the same power.

Boost gets raised about .5 bar max even on the most tuned PD's.

Diesel is all about the fueling.

I have Colin's old Chunky FMIC. I know i'd have to upgrade the inlet manifold when getting the VNT 3 fitted. But as far as injectors go. I know the turbo is rated to 230 hp. But i'd be comfortable sitting at 210/215. Aslong as i know the injectors were stable enough.

I too have contacted Allard and they told me that a VT2 is sufficient for 220bhp.

The VT3 is the same as the VT2, So i've been reading, just the VT3 is a tad bit stronger, and uses a different inlet manifold.

What about the VT7? ;)

I dont see the point in that to be honest. It takes away the economical side of the Diesel :)... Where as with the VNT3 ... You can still maintain some of it.

Lets be honest. If you did a VT7 conversion would you really drive it "economically" for the majority of the time?

...I think not :D

Exactly, So you might aswell go and get a Petrol, and get more for your money! :D

But the whole point would be to have a unique Fabia vRS and keep hold of the diesel driving characteristics, which I am very fond of.

You would run out of revs extremely quickly tho, but I bet it would be a riot to drive

I thought the point of having bigger injectors was to get the fuel in quicker and hopefully avoid/reduce smokescreens behind the car? ISTR with the smaller injectors, though they can produce the power, the time they're open leads to smokiness.

Their are some results of a VNT5 fitted to a Audi A3 on Awesome's site. A nice 210bhp @ the wheels. A VNT2 (old turbo) fitted to Mickey's Golf Van made 190bhp @ wheels. A Turbo dynamics stage 2 (vnt 20 compressor) makes around the same as the VNT2.

From the gists from Allards site.

VNT1 is a GT1749vb turbo capable of more boost.

VNT2 has an uprated compressor (guessing a VNT20)

VNT3 sounds like a VNT20 turbo as it has a bigger turbine. Needs a new manifold.

VNT4 like above with a bigger compressor (would this be a VNT22?)

VNT5 what ever the compressor is above but with the whole turbo.

For the VNT3 is the turbo and manifold a straight swap or are other things needed to make them fit/work.

I will be going down the VT5 route a.s.a.p. Just have no money at the moment.

For the record, 220bhp is easily achievable with the VT2, but would recommend getting the FMIC as well to keep that power consistent. :)

That Audi A3 is devonmikeyboy's. I was speaking to him last Friday when I went to get a race exhaust downpipe from him. ;) I should think it's pdq, considering the 210bhp at the wheels is also given its got the quattro 4wd in place (a traditional sapper of flywheel power compared to 2wd)
