Dashboard lights

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I've a Felicia 1.9D (late year 2000). The lights illuminating the dashboard have started to fail one at a time over the past year. To get the instrument cluster out, do I have to remove the steering wheel? It's got an airbag fitted and I'm not keen on disturbing it too much in case the whole thing goes off in my face!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You shouldn't have to remove the steering wheel.

From what I remember there's 4 screws, hidden behind trim, that will release the instrument panel....you will have to disconnect the speedo cable from the gearbox though, in order to pull the panel forward.

Sorry...I think there's actually 5 screws, not 4.

How to disconnect the speedo:

Under the bonnet, go to the back of the gearbox, below the battery. You'll see a thick black cable going straight downwards and connected into the gearbox. It's a bit awkward to get at (as are most things on the felicia 1.9D). That's your speedo cable.

There's a knurled (grippy) end on it just where it meets the gearbox. You can unscrew this and that will give you enough slack to pull the instrument cluster towards you when you're sitting in the driver's seat and have taken out all the screws holding it in.

Hope that helps.

As pinkskud says, punching the dashboard may also make the lights come on. It also has the added benefit of relieving the frustration of a blacked out instrument cluster.
