Reboot an ipod?

Featured Replies

Hw?

Mine has hung having had it connected to the car. Says it is OK to disconnect, and I have, but it is still showing as connected. Tried plugging it in to the mains and it stays the same.

Any ideas? Do I juts let it run out of power and hope for the best?

Think it may be related to the firmware update I put on it, but I have no way of telling.

There is a way of rebooting them.. clicky

To reset your iPod:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Only ever had to do this once with mine... and it's 2yrs old now :D

Nicci's Ipod hangs a few times when listerning to it at work. In fact happened last night. Only thing to do is wait for the battery to run out. :(

Bit crap really.

Damn! Tried most other combinations, but not that one  I'll give it a go when I get home, although it'll probably be flat by then :(

If you have the latest iTunes, you can also reset the iPod via that. It will also check the latest updates as well,

Have you tried the instructions from the apple support page?

Just holding the centre button and menu do the job. Never had to toggle the hold switch before. Maybe thats if it doesn't respond. Maybe it loses the position of the hold switch sometimes.

Does anyone elses iPod seem to lose position sometimes? If you don't use it for a day or so, it won't just carry on from where it was. The little apple will pop up and it'll click and whirr to itself for about 10 seconds, and then carry on. Like it reboots or something.

Try updating the ipod software by getting iTunes 7. If that dont work restore it

Thats a restore which will wipe everything off the ipod so just make sure that you have all your music in your iTunes library

If its not used for 14hours (iirc) it shuts down completely, its normal. ;) :P

Ah, I wondered if it was something like that.

Always do the menu and powerdown switch to reset mine. As mentioned.. 6-8secs then apple symbol appears.

You can't do that if the ipod has frozen and stopped responding though :)

Well Nicci's Ipod's just hung. I quick look at the reboot instructions and hay presto Ipod rebooted. Saves running down the battery

In the 2 years I've had mine it's hung only once... and I use it just about everyday :)
