Rocker cover on octy vRS

Featured Replies

Thinking of removing the plastic engine cover and painting the engine rocker cover (narrowed it down to green or red to match the badge). Think red may look too 'Honda' so green is looking likely... Any ideas what paint to use??? foliatec caliper paint, hammerite and sperex vht paint come to mind (is the sperex vht gloss???)

Anyone done it???

Leave the engine cover on and paint that instead! I did, and colour coded it to the car and it looks ace. imho of course!

Don't paint the cam cover itself as you will get into a whole world of shi te with sillicone problems!

my piccy!

Silicone problems....

The whole idea behind it is removing the cover...

Then remove it but don't try to paint the cam cover it really won't work, unless you have a lot of time and patience.

And to be fair the 1.8 t looks pretty ropey to me when it's naked......again just my 2p worth.:)

silicone is a lubricant, which is present in engine oil. and that is usefull. however if silicone comes into contact with wet paint then it goes bananas. Instead of a nice smooth finish it will be like painting a golf ball in hamerite.

And the cam cover is aluminium so just paiting it will last abut five minutes.

Seen plenty polished.

Don't see many aeroplanes with no paint on 'em and their made of aluminium....!!! (engines included)

True, bit I would have thought the painting procedure is a little different than a Halfords rattle can and the qualiity of the aluminium is somewhat better.

Paint a Coke can and see hw long it lasts.

Kind of glad i work in aircraft maintenance then..... Rocker will be getting acid etch primed then two pack polyurethane top coat so we'll see how it goes. (oh and it's on a spare cover so no real harm done if it goes a bit 'Pete tong'........ .

Will post pics when it's done if anyones interested....:( .

Sounds good. You smoothing it at all first?

Lot of inperfections in the standard cover.

  • Author

Been smoothing the b****y thing all week

Luckily the poly wotsit paint is quite thick and has good self leveling properties but i will get it as smooth as i can first.

Why did you paint everything else Purple.

I didn't... just poor quality camera phone pic. Need to see it in the flesh to do it justice.

I'll see if i can borrow a digi cam for a better pic.

looks a lot better than my dirty oil covered head :)

i quite fancy mine done in white like the car :)

A nice finished result, looks much better than I thought it would, so whats next.. can you get silicon hoses in green..??

  • Author

Yes you can but they may look OTT, might consider black silicone hoses tho'
