Mums Car

Featured Replies

I need some help with this because my mum is driving me round the twist,

She bought a S Reg Vectra 2.0 with 117,000 Miles on the clock and it has been nothing but an absolute tit of a car. It's needed all sorts of sensors and suspension parts e.t.c. Now she has a really limited budget, probably about 2k.

She is convinced that she must have a Vauxhall Corsa which she likes so much, but I keep telling her that theres better stuff for the money. Any Corsa for around 2k isn't going to be much cop anyway. Iv'e tried to convince her that something Japanese might be more reliable, but she just hates all of them:( She has no clue about cars and just won't get real and look at the problems that might develop on a Corsa 1.2 thats been around the world twice.

My Suggestion to her is to get a much lower mileage Omega Automatic with a huge engine, would this make any sense or should I keep trying to steer her onto Japanese cars?

some of the older honda civics can be bought for that sort of money... and they will have all the gadgets like air-con etc

I'd go with a Polo over a Corsa personally.

Best little car's made are Toyota Yaris's. Excellent engines too..

Anything German has held it's value a bit too much, A Nice 3 door Civic might do, Ill ask her tommorow and see what she thinks

Yes they are very good little cars, but have you seen how well they hold their value?

Depends on what your looking for, I paid

Our P-reg Corsa 1.2 was still going strong when we traded it in with 80k miles on it 3 years back. Never had one single problem with it, sailed through every MOT, and I'd highly recommend them as a small car.

Significantly more (expensive!) to go wrong on an Omega auto, imho.....

And I'd go for a Micra (either shape) over either. Failing that, a P11 Nissan Primera will run flawlessly (although don't sue me if you get the one Friday afternoon example) except for the front anti-roll bars which need replacing regularly if thrashed.
