Looking to get rid of my golf...

Featured Replies

Well i've got my new job, 12volts... well kinda come to a standstill at the moment. Have decided its time to lose my current golf, get to use the cars at work, but only when available so still need my own car.

Have been looking around and have decided the MKV golf is the best move I can make. Couldn't go back to fabia/fabia handling/tiny boot etc after living with the golf now, octavia is just well... to big for my needs. So MKV golf it is. i have looked very closely at the focus, as mentioned in Tom's thread, but (even though i work in the ford group) just can't bring myself to not buy german VAG.

Have been looking around and i've decided to go with the 1.9 lump rather than the 2.0 mainly due to cost, but secondly insurance and thirdly I just don't need my own quick car (thats what works for ;) ). After driving with DSG, and now spending my life around automatics and living in stop start london i've given up on manual... soo...

If I can haggle enough looking at 1.9 SE with DSG

Your getting paid to much if you want a Golf as just a drive around car.

:)

Weekends, to/from work, weeknights... its all driving around :D

Buy a mk2 gti 8v instead for about 1 monthly payment on that mk5, 2.0 bottom end of a mk3 gti8v and thats you rawkin.

I'm not a fan of new cars 9can you tell?) depreciation scares me

Not being funny mate, but that's a bit sad imho

Private plate is the answer to the age thing. :)

I find the Keeping up with the Jones' a bit sad too. :D But then this is a posh part of London, so I guess that's where it all started.

Rich, thats unbelievable :gasp:. One of the things I like about Skodas is the whole inverted badge snobbery thing. And, fwiw, the Dagenham Dustbin jokes have already started - more so than the jokes when I bought the Skoda.

An "OK" car, but much better to be had for the money imho.

don't be silly rich, your changing your car because your mates say its too old and think your a pauper? get over it and save the money for a super dooper sports car :D

ROFL not one of my mates has a car even as new as my old golf, so deffo not that!! Its a road/neighbour thing.

super dooper sports cars @ work :D

Just been down to VW and they've sold the one i was looking at. It was almost half brand new price which is why i was really after it :( .

The quest continues, meanwhile my golf hit the 110,000 mile mark this morning.

my octavia is on 112k and abit :)

For those who dont know Rich, I think i should point out that he is a bit "lar de dar" lives in an expensive gaff in "twickers" (OK its his parents) and has to keep up with the Jones's.

Clearly he needs on of these eBay.co.uk: MR2 FERRARI 355 CAR BODY CHANGE KIT REPLICA. FIBERGLASS (item 170035889080 end time 10-Oct-06 18:55:57 BST)

Thanks for the wonderful picture you paint of me. An 18 yr old does well, gets a good secure job, wants a new car... yes to keep up with the 'jones' but only cause I can.... why not??

Current golf is nackered, new one will be my car for nxt 5-6 years anyway so don't want to buy old.

What happened to the 12v project?

still continuing, but i've currently run out of free time to do it. Just need the new dash and she's road worthy again... still no good as my main car though.. a) to under powered B) to smaller boot. Without the crash i'd of long sold her buy now anyway.

Rich - how much was the one you were looking, that got sold?

Steve

Cannot for anything ever afford a house around here. But i'm am soon to be moving out... friend of mine's parents own a second house just round the corner which they rent... no one renting atm so they are re-furbing. Myself, him and a couple of others are going to be renting from the new year.

I think if you are looking to keep the car for quite a while, you will regret settling for the 1.9. Huge difference in flexibility, especially when laden.

Aye I know what you mean house prices are stupidly high as is rent unless you are willing and able to bunch together with a few mates.

I'd be tempted to shop about and test drive a few more cars before I made my choice ;)

Everybody managed with the 1.9 from VAG for years until the 2.0 came out....

Yeah I know that, all I mean is that the new Golf is a lot heavier than the mark IV for 105bhp to cart around.
