Is an Octavia a good car?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

finally an english Skoda forum... I was afraid I had to learn German for a minute ;-)

I'm from Belgium and I'm really thinking about buying a Skoda Octavia (19tdi - 90hp) and I would appreciate it if you guys could share some experiences with me (good and bad).

I drove a VW polo (6N, build 1998) for 6 years and I had nothing but problems with it (transmission, fly-wheel, ...) so I'm looking for a car without fabrication-flaws.

I know of one for the Octavia and Superb, the LMM (I don't know how to translate it but I'll have a go: air-mass-meter) but I already found a cheap solution if I would encounter this problem so that's no biggie.

Any other problems you might have encountered: please let me know. Praises are also welcome off course...

Thx!

Cheers

Wim

I had a 1.9 Tdi before my Octy Rs and it was a really good car - I only thought about changing when the warranty was about to end. That is why I test drove the RS - no going back then!

The Tdi was not quite as good on consumption as my Xantia (I got 720 miles from one tank once but was driving really carefully to see how far I could go) anyway....the build was better and I never once had a problem with it.

For a no whistles type diesel it was very good - no sitting waiting for ages for the glowplugs to heat up, quiet in the cabin, comfortable, reasonably quick, I was happy with it!

Hi and Welcome to Briskoda!

I also previously owned a 110bhp TDi before changing to my current RS. Fantastic motor......good performance, excellent economy (600+ miles per tank), good ride/hanlding compromise, well built, good range of toys etc.....only change cos some MaxPoweR Muppet went in tot he back of us on the M4.

Anyway I digress.......had GLX 90bhp TDi for a 24 hours test drive.....has most of the benefits of the 110bhp TDi but was IMHO a little quieter. A big offset to this though was is was a lot slower and a little less economical.

If you can afford it I recommend you go for the 110bhp TDi.

Cheers.

Adrian.

All the Octavias are good cars...

TDi great for economy... :)
