Three down, none to go :(

The 350Z felt even more claustrophobic than the Z3MC, but the mickey was taken by the S2000 I tried at my local Honda dealer. I blame my parent for feeding me so much sprinkles ;)

Maybe I should just give up on this whole RWD business, all the fun cars are designed for midgets...

Sorry to hear that Q - but even I found the S2k small inside, the transmission tunnel is just huge.

How about one of the "R" Volvos ? Were they not RWD ?

The thing is, the R Volvo (S60R I presume) is just another Volvo to anyone but the biggest anorak. I'm not into this subtle car thing, I like my car to be obscene ;)

I drove one of them at the Ring :D Far king lovely motor. Quick, adjustable and stable. Interior didn't fit me very well though :(

Q, in all seriousness, go try the Tamora. You will love it and you will fit - it is designed for people up to about 6'7" Or, try a Tuscan - Paul loved his and he fitted - he ain't the smallest bloke in the world ;)

:D

Q, look where they come from. Japs are midgets so the cars are small, yanks are fat So Corvettes & Mustangs are big. Compromise is still the Minaro, buy an older one & then get the twin Turbo conversion :D :D :D

TVR's arent as bad as everyone makes out, the ones that tend to suffer assuming you start with a good one are the ones that sit in the garage all week & only get used on sunny days, used every day they are not that bad if you have a bit of mechanical sympathy. Go & get a copy of this months Max Power, a guy I know has both of his in a feature article, that should wet your appetite (I dont normally buy it either by the way)

Whatever you choose its the best time og the year to buy rag tops, loads of head room in those.

Have you also looked at Jags, some of the older sporty ones are getting quite cheap, not sure about reliability or servicing costs but you will be into independent dealers anyway & they are big.

He'll never fit in an XKR though, Stuart

How about a Holden HSV import?

As said, I would love the TVR, and I would be prepared to do a lot of compromising for one, but I just couldn't afford to service it 4x year @ £500 a go. The Monaro is out due to the insurance costs, and so is pretty much anything else with a V8. I can't even afford to insure a lowly M3 :(

Am considering a VX220 as they seem roomy inside (from pictures), but the trade-off is that they don't have any creature comforts (like AC/CC).

Am however not considering anything before 1999 (re: Skyline) as it does need to last for 3 long years with lots of abuse in the middle. Don't really fancy rebuilding an engine every year...

I've almost come to the conclusion that RWD cars are only for the rich or the bland, or both ;)

:orb_lol:

Ever been in an Elise ?

The sills on a VX are even wider. Your colleagues will make an effort to arrive at the same time as you - so they can laugh at you getting out of it each morning.

I did say, seem. I do realise that the sills are wide, and getting in and out will be the highlight of the day, but if the space inside is big enough, I'd be prepared to invest in a few yoga lessons :)

Just spoken to a colleague who has a VX220T.

He's about 5ft 10 and has no problem in it. He thinks you'll find you have no trouble getting a good driving position but you may find headroom tight if you have a long back as opposed to long legs.

he has a mate that uses one as a daily driver with no trouble at all - he has the optional hard top though.

Q would fit in a XKR, I do and Paul does (he used to have one).

Thats what I thought

How about an off the wall suggestion? Renault Clio V6 phase II. The Phase I were a bit of a handful, the phase 2 are much nicer

Honda NSX?

My former boss has an XKR400 - To me it diddnt seem much bigger than the Z.

Strange noise too.

NSX could be out of his budget though ?

  • Author

The Clio V6 was on my list, but although they look and sound fab, they aren't that particularly fast nor great to drive it seems. I know I shouldn't believe everything I read in the press, but what else can I go on :)

The NSX is too old, the XKR would make me look too old ;)

If I wasn't so damn tall/picky* this thread wouldn't be 4 pages long :D

*delete where applicable

V6 no fun to drive? The phase II is lovely  As to what else you could do, try driving one :haha: Not much faster than the 190 but it is the way it delivers it that is "fun"

You tried an M3 yet? Or a 911? Yes the Porker will be fairly old, but you will enjoy :D Or get a TVR Griffith 500 and a little hatch for the same money for when it is raining

  • Author

M3, as said above, is uninsurable by yours truly. The 911 is too old (think 1993 is about the best I can get for my money). And we've already gone over the 3 car thing... I think we are full circle on this :(

As a Griff 500 owner, I wouldn't recommend one as a daily driver. There's a reason why most spend their lives tucked up in the garage. The newer speed 6 engined cars are more bearable, but as you've said, servicing is an issue. You've discounted the M3, but I say an E39 M5 is your best bet. Mine is the perfect MPV. As docile as a Lab puppy, or ferocious as a Rotweiler, you choose.

Perhaps you're neighbour will be selling something desirable in the coming weeks ;)

If you cant insure an M5 how about a 540i ? Lots have the sports kit on them and they do look quite mean.

Oh Q, what a pickle.

As for the VX220 - whilst they may be roomy inside, getting in and out of them is not easy at all. :(
