RWD options?

sorry to intrude, but that Smartuki thing would get my vote - ok, I'd look daft, but with that noise and performance, I really wouldn't care.

ZT 260 £16k brand spanking

Jolly nice motors and very understressed.

And then buy a Westfield :D

Second hand Porsche 968 Club Sport - a very under-rated car IMHO

Ewww, it's a Porsche with an *** like mine ;)

Re the MG/Westfield combo, I can only afford one car, not two ;)

Sell more sprinkles then, and stop using them for your own pleasure :haha:

E30 M3? M5? Corvette?

Those at the North Weald handling day were most unimpressed with TJ's 968's handling in the wet - maybe he had some dodgy tyres on the back, but for a car that's supposedly the best handling Porker of the front-engined models, it spent an awful lot of its time going backwards...

Hi

Boxters are not what I would call boring to drive, but you wont get one worth having at

Hi Q

Good thread. I am in the market for a RWD car too (as you know).

What about a Z4? Just about down to the 16-17k mark now, for a 2.5

Have owned an S2000, easy cars to live with. No problems with it whatsoever. The engine check light only comes on when you forget to tighten the fuel cap!!

Drove it back to back on a long run with a mates Boxster S. The Boxster is far more refined, far less windy roof down and a bit quicker due to the extra torque. However, it does cost a shed load more to buy! I would not class the Boxster S as boring to drive, far from it.

The S2000 is a bit tail happy but only if you provoke it. It is (IMO) 'safe' tail happy though, easy to control and you find yourself doing it for fun. Well, the roads are a bit wider in Texas... :D Did it in the wet once and nearly went sideways but that taught me a lesson :o

Prior to that (also in the US) I had a Trans Am WS6 (replaced in the Pontiac line up by the GTO/Monaro) which has the same engine as the Monaro. They are not bad on fuel driven gently and 30MPG on the motorway is do-able. That GM 5.7 is bulletproof too. Great fun to drive, not as hairy as you would think. My WS6 didn't have TCS and I had no problems in winter.

I have not driven the Monaro but have sat in one, it is a lovely environment. The TransAm (a 20 year old chassis and poor-quality interior) was missing the refinement of a modern-designed car in many ways, I think the Monaro would tick all the boxes that the Trans Am couldnt. Anyway, shame about the insurance quote so I won't go on about it.

The MG V8 has a 4.6 (older shape) Mustang motor in it. Old tech if you ask me, 260hp but unstressed. Have driven that motor in a 2002 Mustang and it didn't feel that quick to be honest, hence I ended up buying the Trans Am. Won't give any better MPG (in fact might be a touch less economic fuel wise) than the GM 5.7 V8 so I'd take the Monaro every time.

I've also had the pleasure of owning a Z3 3.0i. That is quick, 231hp and 215lbft in a 2950lb car...handling isn't perfect but you shouldn't notice on the roads; it is more of a tourer than an outright sports car like the S2000, but in everyday driving I would choose the Z3 over the S2000 every time.

On my shortlist at the moment is the idea of buying another Z3 3.0i but this thread is making me think Monaro now!!!

I ruled out TVRs as well for same reasons as you but insurance is surprisingly better than you might think.

Driven the RX8, power delivery is very linear. Didn't like it myself...good car though.

I think what's needed here is some serious test drives.

Test drive all the ones you like the look of,

The test drive the RX-8 PZ and buy that.

Another thought Z3 M Coupe? Storming drive.

Chris

TVR Griffith 500 :D

And when it kills you can I have it? :D

Someone mentioned the Jag XK - great idea but Q's a big chap and it may be a little small inside. Pointless rear seats too - a friend has one and his 6 yr old complains about leg room

What about a GTS skyline? 2.5L single turbo and you could get a mint one for £8/9k with plenty of money for mods

Or is that just my dream :D

You could even get an R34 Skyline (just)

TVR Griffith 500 :D

And when it kills you can I have it? :D

You can get Griffiths for around 10000, that leaves 5000 for a daily hack, If Q wasnt so adequately proportioned I would suggest a fabia for that

You could even get an R34 Skyline (just)

Expensive to own & not exactly bullet proof, If you want big reliable Jap + RWD a Supra TT is the way to go, still not cheap to run but you can safely thrash it :) :)

They're a bit fugly 1990's though ;)

Yeah but Q wears a medallion and a chest wig so it should be right up his straβe :D

Nope I agree with you.

Big engine in an Omega - may as well have the 3.6 V6 Omega if you're going to do that.
