Retrofit Front Sensors - Power Switch

Featured Replies

Hi, I am fitting wireless front parking sensors to my Octy but am not sure how to power the sensors.

I realy want to avoid having to route the power lead through the bulkhead - the sensors have a wireless tramsmitter which I have tested and works fine into the cabin with the receiver pluged into the cig socket..

I have thought of splicing into the front side light feed - so would have to switch the side lights on to switch on the sensors. Does anyone know if this would cause any problems.

Second idea was to use an existing, but unused, feed - fitting a suitable switch in the dash. Does anyone know if such a feed exists, hiding behind the dash - perhaps the feed for the standard option.

Thanks in advance for any feedback

There is a bulb failure monitoring system that might not like you chopping into the wiring loom.

I would think all you really need is an ignition switched live and a switch in the cabin.

Hi, Sounds easy but how do you get a switched live through the bulkhead, I can not see an easy way to route a feed wire

Wireless sensors - sounds interesting. Where did you get them from? Any more information?

Cheers

Hi,

I go them off Ebay - the company is still advertising them - Part entry below.

I have painted and lacquered them and tested them to make sure they work by hardwairing the sender under the bonnet and plugging the receiver into the cig socket and they work perfectly. My only issue is how provide switched power to the sender under the bonnet. I still favour connecting to the sidelights but have not done this yest - was hoping for more suggestions from members.

There are other Wireless Parking Sensors avaiable but most have a much shorted range and may not work transmitting through the bulkhead. Anyway these are SO MUCH CHEAPER than Skodas and they are not Wireless.

These sensors are fully waterproof and can be fitted to vehicles with tow bars, bicycle racks and spare wheels. They can also be colour coded to match bumper colour. We recomend 2 light coats from SPRAY CAN at 12".

Carefully measure out the desired location of each sensor on bumper and tape up to avoid scratches. Using the supplied cutting tool make your holes and embed the waterproof sensors remembering to go 1 to 4 in order.

Thanks for that - sounds interesting!

Is your car a Mk1 Octy? If so there's a grommet in the bulkhead behind the glovebox that comes out near the pollen filter and there's a duct throught to the engine bay.

You could splice into the switched live for the head unit.
