Colour Matching Sidelights with Xenons

Featured Replies

Has anyone done this? What bulbs did you use?

Is it also possible to colour match the puddle illumination in the wing mirrors?

I saw some PIA lamps advertised but you'd need to put a kidney on eBay to afford them.

I think boggo standard white LED's are pretty close to xenon colouring. Any bluer than that and they will start to make the xenons themselves look cack.

As for the puddle lamps......

Isn't there a problem using the standard white LED's though?

I thought it was more of a problem with the car not getting the right signal from the bulb and reporting that it was not working

I dont think it applies to sidelights does it?

If so then you need a resistor but I've fitted LED's to my old Octy and it was fine.

I know someone that tried LED's in his Octy II Number Plate lights and they didn't work.

What's to stop them working? Surely it's still a 12v supply?

It was a problem with the bulb failure system.

In my previous car (Toyota Avensis) I put Bosch Xenon Blue W5W for sidelights to match my Xenons and they were just perfect. They are only few nickels more expensive then standard W5W that Octy has. Wanted to change them in my 10 days old Octy as I was changing yellow turning signs bulbs to Philips Silver Vision in headlights and lights on the back to avoid that "egg" effect in my lights. The only problem was that I was afraid to open that box with clips and screws on the Xenons so I left them the way they were. To change yellow bulbs to Philips Silver Vision was 5 min. job.

Anyway, is there anyone who can tell me if I can open the box on the back of my Xenons and not to ruin anything? May I change the sidelight bulbs? Or I better not touch them? The only thing I'm sure of is that if we menage to change them they match perfectly as they did in my Avensis.

Should we and may we do it?

Thanks

You say was does that mean there is a way round it?

I changed mine, I have Xenons. I just made sure they were turned off (I did it first thing in the morning just in case), poped out the light (don't forget to remove cabling), removed the rear cover and changed the bulbs. The sidelights are a little awkward to unclip IIRC, a long nose pliers came in hand to release the retaining mechanism (the hands were too big for the opening).

Sounds good, what bulbs did you use?

A few threads on this

Disconnect the ballast box before you attempt it!!

Could be an electrifying experience!

Phillps Blue Vision Side lights, and Vision Plus Dips. There was a Powerblubs deal on here at the time.

Btw Regarding Ballast, is that on the same connector block as the rest of the cabling ?
