Featured Replies

my 1.2 has done 500 miles now.what should be my average mpg be ?

it's average now is 29.2 mpg

thanks

ps how long will the brakes get better ? (its got abs but feels like it hasn't)

That doesn't sound particularly high , but it will depend on the sort of journeys you are doing.

If it's only short trips where it never warms up properly then you won't be too far off.

If thats on gentle A road cruising at 60 then something's not right.

it sounds about right to me. it depends how you drive tho...... if your foot is firmly planted to the ground all the time then obviously you will get less mpg

I never trust those trip computers fully.

Do you still have the petrol reciept??

You can work it out yourself with a couple of simple sums.

Look on the reciept to see how many litres of fuel you put in for a tankful. Divide this number by 4.546 (the amount of litres in a gallon). Take your mileage and divide it by how many gallons you got and thats your mpg....... simple!!!!

For instance :-

40 litres / 4.546 = 8.798 gallons

500 miles / 8.798 gallons = 56.831 Miles per Gallon.

I would imagine your mpg will steadily increse over the next couple of thousand miles til the engine is bedded in a bit more.

If you're that worried about it keep all your fuel reciepts and check it every couple of weeks (it's easier if you either fill the tank every time, or put in the same amount each time - £10's worth or something, provided the prices don't fluctuate too much).

i do mainly short trips (about 100 miles a week)

It might just be that then......??

Have you taken the car on any longer trips? Maybe a day out next weekend is on the cards? Possibly taking in a few motorway miles......?

A longer period at sustained speed / engine rpm might help things bed in better too??

:iagree:

it's allways better to run the engine in with longer journeys, and let the oil come up to temperature..... also dont use full throttle for the first few thousand miles

12k on my 1.2 12v and i was returning in the mid 40's general driving and somewhere in the 30s when london driving. Its an extremly economical engine when broken in... acts a bit like a diesel.

I have a 1.4 16v Petrol, doing very short journeys to and from college @ about 14 miles a day (7 there 7 back) and got 35.6 mpg over 270 miles @ 34.47 litres. I think the comp shown up a reading of about 38 so its not ridiculously out. HTH

got a 1.9SDi and a lead foot and getting about 56mpg

373miles from 30.56litres!!!

That sounds a bit low. I am getting nearly 31MPG from my 2.2 Prelude Vech, you should get that in the late 30s I would of thought, unless you cane it everywhere:)

i have just been reading on whatcar that a 1.4 8v should do 28.9 round town which I thought was a bit low but 50 on a run thats one extreme to the other not sure how reliable that is.

Saying that with my current problem I wouldn't complain with 28.9

Well - what can i say - too many boy racers thinkin that they know how to drive and that they can beat a skoda!!!

hence the lead foot syndrome!!

on a long run i tend to average about 60-65mpg at a steady 80 on the clock!!! ;)

it's so funny when merc's bmw's and audi's pull over to let you get passed before they realise what the car is :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
