Project caravan!

Featured Replies

Well - I didn't think I'd end up with one of these when I woke up yesterday morning. Came up as an offer on a local freecycle site, so my mate and I went to pick it up. TOTALLY free! Just towed it away. Today is going to be the big clean up as its been sat under a pine tree for a "while" - Hopefully can restore it a bit and get some use out of it. :D

One thing's for sure - The mongrel isn't getting a towbar fitted! More pics of the clean-up to follow!

 "I f***in' hate pikies!"

Hangovers all round here have delayed cleaning, but once my tummy starts munching on the bacon sarnie I just munched, I'll be out there like a shot with my bucket and sponge.

Bloody pikey

well i must say jason this has only backed up our previous thoughts about you :)

What site is this?? Is there much unwated crap I could decorate my bedroom with?

Sounds like scrap heap challenge!

well i've heard all the stereotyping jokes about skodas, and i've heard the ones about towing gypo cookers along the highways of this here green and pleasant land right.......... could you really cope with having the pi$$ taken out of you for both?? imagine how satisfying that would be for a bmw driver to overtake a pikey box then BONUS he realises it's a skoda pulling it too.... it's like killing two birds with one stone.....

Well - the good news is she scrubbed up really well. Combination of bar mat and soapy water, plus a pressure washer means she's pretty clean now! Original T-cut was needed for some serious yellowing, but that came off nice and easy. Now the inside needs sorting out.

Bad news is the caravan was jetwashed at my mate's garage, and its still there. And I forgot to take my camera. Just imagine the above but nice and clean, and with a blinged up polished wheel cover. ;)

Some bonuses found today:

2 Calor gas bottles - very heavy so must be quite full

1 12v battery.... flat.

Cupboard full of mugs, plates and cutlery.

Huge awning that bolts to the caravan and makes a tent the same size as the 'van.

The inside is really dank and nasty though, so needs a serious clean out!

Can I just ask one thing........and being serious.......the tyres have probably been on there since the van was new, so before you head off in it, get them changed it could save you an awful lot of grief

A good point that I'll take note of. The van will be back here tomorrow night so I can check. Tyres look good with decent tread though. It towed really well though - ultra smooth, despite its long period of standing still - and the brakes on it work very well too.

Thats the problem ...the tyres look good but if they are over six years old they will be perished even if you can't see it, trouble is a van puts more stress on the tyres and believe me you don 't want to be anywhere near it if a tyre blows, let alone towing it....it will try to kill you.........and for the sake of

Well the wheels are so tatty I might just look out for some good condition wheels with 175/70 R13 tyres.

Get some spinner hub caps for it

Was kind of hoping it would be 5 x 100, so I could stick a couple of my track wheels on it. I think its 4 x 100 though. I did spend 5 minutes with metal polish on the wheel cover in the pic above... Walked round the other side - no cap at all!

First thought when I saw the pic -

It was free for a reason!

;)

Proof positive that just because something is free does not mean you should take it.

:iagree:

the only reason the previous owner got rid is becuase they know how much it's going to cost to get sombody to collect it and take it away......... now it's your problem!!

I have an ideal solution to your carvan woes.

Find a field, pack the bugger with high explosive and detonate it. Then collect the bits and have a bonfire :)

Good Point there........There was a computor monitor at work which was surplus and had a sign on saying.."please take, Free to good home.".........It ended up in the Skip.....If it was just left there with no sigh, someone would have nicked it....... :) ........Typical....Back on topic
