After a frankly hilarious mission of taking a new baby, plus all associated new baby things, to visit the grandparents last weekend in a Fabia VRS I have decided that now is the time to bite the bullet and get an Octavia VRS. Space frankly is becoming a must. After reading up on the discussions of petrol v diesel I have come the decision on which version I would like and have booked the test drive for this weekend.

While discussing prices with the dealer on the telephone he made mention that he would do a 'great' deal on the demonstrator if I was interested. Never really contemplated buying an ex demontstrator as it seems if your paying that kind of money I would want a brand new car not a used one. Alternatively, if its such a 'great deal' would I be a fool to turn it down.

Dont have any details just yet but wanted a couple of opinions please. Would you consider it???

We've bought many Demonstrator's before.

I did, although not my VRS, it was the car I had before, a Fabia 1.4 16v 100bhp. It was an ex-demonstrator and had everything on it, traction control, body kit, air con, cd, 16inch alloys, etc

you never know, you might get a great deal:thumbup:

I bought one, same car, better price, available now, it was not a difficult decision for me. If you have a baby go for the estate, its huge.

Not had many problems with it - just the usual cosmetics.....

I've bought two ex demo fabias. The only trouble I had was with the clutch in the VRS after a remap. Otherwise no complaints.

Not sure I would buy a performance car demonstrator, on the basis that it will have been used mainly for short journeys and will have been ragged each and every time from cold with no oportunity to warm up or warm down, particularly the diesal. I suppose it would depend on wether you are planning on keeping it beyond the warrenty period, and the saving you are being offered over new. hth

Yes, I'm aware my car was a pd100 demonstrator in it's early life. The owner I bought it from put about 27k miles of demo on it, and then I took hold. Kind of doesn't matter as it's current engine is from a 2004 vRS and I've not got a clue whether it was a demonstrator or not. :)

I bought my Octy Estate vRS as an ex-demonstrator. 6 months old, 1,200 miles on the clock, also been used as the Sales Dirctor's wife's runabout (!). It had cruise contriol and parking sensors as extras already, and a good reduction in the price from new. Never had any trouble with it at all, and have had it re-mapped since. You won't regret getting the estate, loads of space, just as perky as the hatch, just make sure you put 17's or 18's on with wider rubber (225), as it tends to understeer a bit too much with the standard 16's

My Fabia is an ex-demo, and it is fully loaded.

Look at it this way, a brand new £10,000 car from a show room, costs you £8250. Tony Blair gets 17.5% VAT, so John Presscott can by another Jag, and take his secretary for dinner first. That means you give away £1750 for nothing, most ex-demos are less than a year old, and come with a lot of extras that you would have to stump up more cash for if you were buying a new car.

My presumption with ex-demo’s is that every person who’s driven one has ragged the ****** off it. Not always the case granted, but for peace of mind I wouldn’t buy one.

It depends on what car we are talking about.

If it is a fast car, and it appeals to a younger audience, then i wouldn`t buy it as an ex-demo car.

If it is a slow car, and maybe Skoda or like, then I wouldn`t have a problem with it.

I have testdriven a few cars, and yes, they get some stick, but not until they are warm and ready.

I wouldn't buy one I've driven - the reason my own cars get such an easy life is because I get it out of my system on the demo cars!

Courtesy, pool, demo, hire - doesn't matter to me - I'll kill it!

Our octy 4x4 was an extremly low milage ex-demo (5k) so really was perfect. My fabia was ex skoda fleet had 9k when i bought it... totally imaculate engine nicely run in even if people had ragged it. Not a mark on it. So no problems with buying ex-demos.

My golf was an ex pool car with 100k on clock... has never missed a beat in the time i've had it!!

I would buy one, as long as the savings on new are worth it. You get a practically new car, without the wait.

I would and have bought an ex-demo. Massive saving on new and quite frankly who cares that you have a 'brand new' car as it's only feels like new for a few weeks!.

I agree for the same reasons. Although saying that Mr P's car is an ex demo, it's a 1.9 turbo diesel that was registered to the dealers accountant. We did meet him when he bought the car to us to test drive and seemed like a normal bloke but who knows?

I bought probably the KING of all ex demo cars in my current Fabia vRS.

It makes an appearance in some Hot Hatch DVD having it's head kicked in round Anglessey!!! :eek:

Unfortunately I did not know this during the time it was still under warranty as it might have made a suitable defence for defects :rofl:

I agree with walkie, I myself have abused demonstrators, as no one really cares about them tbh..poor lil things :(

i bought my ex demo fabia vrs, saved over £1000 on list and the car was only 3 mths old with 1200 miles on the clock, not had any major problems with it and its comeing up on 3 years old.
