Lupo TDI 3L

Would imagine this would push up the "cost to repair", hence it would also become surprisingly expensive to insure...?

Rob.

Actually, according to different danish forums regarding lupo 3l, it is cheap to insure and cheap in taxes.

The insurance companies look at how many Bhp it has - not many - and then if it is likely to get stolen/broken into, so....

We don`t have insurance groups as you have. The companies have their own groups, so some cars are very expensive at one company, but quite cheap at another. No real guidelines.

Skoda DK has a very good deal regarding insurance. That means that new drivers can insure a Skoda very cheap compared to other markes.

I guess it's aimed at people with money who want to save the planet, rather than people who want to save money! :D

Rob.

Sod that I just want to save my pocket....

Q

you could try a 1.0L or a diesel seat arosa good fuel economy and cheaper than lupo's. this was mine its a 1.0L it was a great car

my current Lupo Sport isn't too bad on petrol. Normally see about 45MPG from it

45mpg vs a touring rate of 125mpg over 20,000miles and they tried it round the coast of the UK averaging about 45 (speed limits and the like) mpg = 119.

I was after one of these a few years ago, i was waiting for VW to bring them into the UK but it wasnt worth their while converting it to RHD apparently so the UK version got canned. Diesel car magazine had one for a while i think and said 100mpg was actually quite easily achievable - not just a sales figure. Audi brought an A2 3l TDi out too but again no sign of a UK version. I've never seen one in the flesh but expect there are a few imports around. I did see a few smart car Cdi's for sale but they're supposed to unbelievably slow...

With our fuel costs being amongst the highest in europe i'm sure this would sell by the bucketload but i think VW mebbe sold it as a marketing concept and lost money on them due to their relatively exotic design. I dont know why they didnt sell a standard 1.4tdi with the 1.2 tdi engine in? It cant be MUCH worse economy than the 3l even without the tiptronic box and magesium bits?

Seen the new VW Eco racer? Again this would sell like hot cakes but i doubt it'll see the light of day.

2005 Volkswagen VW EcoRacer Concept

Has anyone seen any of these in the UK? 96mpg ave and it has the world record for MPG of a production car of over 5000 units per annum of 125mpg!

It is left hand drive has a 1.2 3 cylinder tdi PD unit. very skinny tyres to aid economy, thin glass, thin seats, magnesium alloys, aerodynamic front & rear spoilers, automatic and yet it still does 0-60 in 12 seconds & 104mph flat out.

Really an ideal car for commuting.

I hear that as the engine is so small they have had to fit an electric heater for the cabin as it takes so long to warm up.

They cost E14,000 when new so Im assuming 6 years on you could pick one up for maybe

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and since I own a LUPO 3L for some time I thought I could clear some things for those who didn't got a chance to test it so far.

So my Lupo has 6 years, I have never had a problem with the gearbox which by the way it has the same construction as a manual one so it has a clutch too but the changing of the gears is done electronically. I must also mention that my car has reached 210.000km this month.

The only things that require maintenance are cosumables like distribution belt, filters : fuel, air, etc , and from time to time a change of light bulbs.

As for the fuel economy, I never use it in the ECO mode (when you have to stay at a traffic light more than 2 min, if you have this button pushed, the moment you hit the brakes, the car just stops and when you have to move you just lift the foot off the break pedal and the engines starts again .

As to clarify more of the fuel economy, I live in Bucharest-Romania where traffic is infernal so that at the rush our I barely make 7.7 km (from home to work) in 50min and the fuel consumption is 6.6 comparising to other cars that can reach even 12.0 per 100 km.

It is also true that it has some dissadvantages: has no electric windows, no AC , only a fan but in winter is great because it has an electric resistance and the inside gets warm very fast, has no electronic assistance to the steering wheel but for me it hasn't been a problem even if I'm a girl , but instead it has ABS .

And for the TDI versions of Lupo I have seen some great tunnings and HP increasings . In my opinion this is a great city car esspecially for a crowded city.

Well I think this is enough for my car. If anyone has more questions about this LUPO 3L please feel free to ask.

Laura, thanks for that. Quite a useful insight!

Hi Laura

Nice to hear from you.

My wife drives a Lupo 16v sport, and we both love the car. It's a shame we didn't get the 3L here.

Have a look over at Club Lupo as well.

Chris

Nice insight , thanks! We are going to get the Polo BlueMotion though , and the base model (
