Should Vrs Skodas Have 4x4 ???

Featured Replies

lately its been very wet

and i have noticed that getting grip has sometimes been difficult (and i have new tyres)

even thou the ATC tries its best it still is not enough

should they fit the high powerd skodas with audis quattro system what do you think??

I'd rather they be rear wheel drive!

Drive slower in the wet.

I have a 1.8t 4x4 remapped and it has recently stopped working. It needs a new ECU I suspect. my point is since having lost 4x4 the handeling is terrible. I really miss it and I did not know what I had until I lost it so to speak!

Do you mean that Haldex system isn't working and you need a new Haldex ECU? VAG-COM will show if there are faults logged with the latter.

Yep the Haldex is not engaging. I have put it on the VAG COM, it says that it has been imposed limitations due to over heating. The temp sender in it is constantly reading 117 deg C.

Well the extra weight would take the edge off most of the performance 'statistics' (0-30 & 0-60 would improve though) but in every usable way the car would be faster (away from the lights, in the wet, stability etc.) speaking as an ex-cavalier 4x4 turbo owner.....oh and a lot safer and more civilised and relaxing to drive too.

I like that can o' worms that just got opened :P

IMHO yes it should have 4x4, but no it wont ever get 4x4 and the 2.0TFSI/2.0PD170

Unless you go Audi...

My 4x4 takes 350 bhp no problem, Eddys is a 100 more, oh how I love those wet roads :drivesaf: :drivesaf: :smrbow:

This could be a long thread

It's perfectly OK in the wet. Like Dave suggested, you need to slow down in the wet. Same goes for any car be it 4WD or not.

In answer to the question, I think that a 4WD fabia would have been a great road car. :)

Anyone seen Des ? ;)

Not yet but hell be along, he wont be able to resist this one:)

.. but it would have weighed loads :D

I forgot to add, with a Turbo Petrol engine and carbon body panels..... :D

Quite possibly; with new (but fully worn in) Proxes T1s, the TDi110 has enough power to break traction in the wet if you put your foot down too hard.

My mate's 50 bhp Ford KA will break traction in the wet too. Does that need 4wd?

Had 1.8T A4 with quattro.

Won't glue you to a road.As I found out.

Wet roundabouts are lots of fun, if anything I probably drive faster in the wet because most other cars are driving slower so I tend to be overtaking more.

That's because 4 times no grip is still no grip ;)

Yep sorry should have said you won't get 2.0TFSI/PD170+ with 4x4 on a skoda.

That is as you said because if you want that they want you to buy an audi.

I agree that 4x4 isn't required just because you break traction in the wet (as said a 110 tdi can do that nicely), but on the 170PD so i assume the 2.0TFSI you can break traction quite easily even in the dry.

And I'm a chronic driver:D

TBH I think I assumed I was invincible.Mind you I thought that my MG Metro Turbo would corner like it was on rails.Still dizzy from that 360 spin even now:rofl:

Not in standard form, unless you have concrete feet and no concept of how driving works :D Grip is astonishing in the dry, a testemant to the suspension setup.

This is actually one of the most ridiculous topics I've seen, and i've started some really bad one's.

Two wheel drive mountain bikes will be suggested next.

Pirelli say - Power is nothing without control ;)
