what turbo does the fabia vrs run?

Featured Replies

as the title says,

what make/type of turbo does the fabia vrs use?

Garrett VNT 17 variable vane

Mine was a KKK

Mine's a KKK as well.

Is there any difference/reason between the two?

Cost saving? Reliability?

KKK turbo for sure, Garret one is on the Seats/VWs IIRC

KKK is slightly cheaper, and when I wanted a hybrid they (the company involved) wouldnt exchange it.

VW have actually moved over to the KKK turbo's on the VW/AUDI vehicles. Recently all the turbo warranty claims I have had to do have involved the KKK turbo's. These have included 2.0 TDi on both the new Golf and the A4. But the reliability between the Garret and the KKK turbo doesn't seem alot difference so VAG are cost cutting without sacrificing quality.

Does anyone know when the changeover was from Garret to KKK? Or have they always been KKK on the fab?

Not 100% sure but if there were any non-KKK ones they must have been the very early ones :)

The PD150 Turbo is a VNT17. So, is the PD130 Turbo definately VNT17 aswell? I don't think so.

I thought all golf based cars ran the garrett GT1749ba(B) Fabia based cars except Pd160 us KKK.

Correct.

hope this isn't a daft one but how long will the turbo last and is there ways of prolonging it

Its a KKK BV39 on the Ibiza 130 and Vrs engine IIRC. I believe they are patterend on the Garrett VNT 17. Used one on my 100PD conversion recently;)

Depends on how drive the car.

It's a variable vane turbo & these need to worked regulary. I've seen case where the vanes have seized due to lack of use.

Over-revving doesn't do the turbo (or engine for that matter) any good either.

Running high boost will increase wear & decrease longevity of the turbo. Most (if not all) tuners will map the boost within the safe limits of the turbo.

So basically, don't granny it around, but don't thrash it to within an inch of it's life!

Thanks for the advice mate ...

My friend has thrashed his to within an inch of its life :D Now needs replacing :( Only done 135,000 miles on it ;)

Question is, if he puts a hybrid or bigger turbo on, does he have to get it remapped ASAP or would it be OK for a couple of weeks? His is remapped already....

 Nice to know that after so many miles iam concerned after only 21k !!!!!!!!

Dont think it makes any difference. You will still request the same boost only difference is you'll get more air due to the bigger compressor.

Didnt Jason run his for while before Jabba got their hands on it?
