fabia tdi engine problems

Featured Replies

I took a 200 mile trip with my fabia tdi pd100 and first i noticed that it didnt run smooth on idle and then after a while engine just turned off while i was driving  I started it again and it was okay. Drove it today and it happened twice and second time it didnt want to start at first. It's got 52k miles(12k remaped) and never had any engine related problems. My guess is that it's got something to do with the injection system since we have very bad diesel here. I think first thing to do is to clean the injectors, how should i do it?

Thanks.

My guess would be a faulty MAF, or some other sensor, if it started being a bit lumpy, etc and then got worse. I would start by trying to log any faults on the ECU. :)

the only time i've ever has a really lumpy idle on a pd engine is when the rocker clearances on top of the injectors were a little too wide. but this is quite a difficult and skilled job for a DIYer...... best get the faluts read off first in case it's a sensor problem

Made 200 mile trip back and putted fuel from another petrol station and drove it with higher revs and it is ok now. My guess is they've putted water in fuel so they can make more money, it was the petrol station in some little town. Now the question is what are the consequences and what should i do now to make things better( i guess i should change diesel filter).

as long as it keeps running ok then dont worry about it too much, most diesels can cope with a little bit of water

It broke down again.

Yesterday it didn't want to start, didn't even start the glow plugs. Towed it to the dealers who kept it whole day and in the end he said that my ecu is dead and it works periodicaly. Replacement would cost arround 600 euros  I came to the conclusion it was caused by the guy who did my remap. It wasn't obd tuning so i guess he didn't do something right.

Is there any other option? Is my dealer telling the truth?

I had a persistent problem with the ABS warning light which was cured by removing the wiring connectors from the ECU, spraying everything with electrical switch contact cleaner and re-assembling. Could just be a dirty contact on the ECU.
