Hi All,

I've managed to acquire some 14" Skoda alloys for my Fabia, they currently have 185/60/14 tyres which will need replacing in the not too distant future. I was thinking of going for 185/50/14 tyres and getting it lowered on some lowering springs for a 'euro' look.

Does anyone see any pitfalls with the idea?

No. But i'd be worried, that you'd lower your car, and then find, there's still plenty of room between your arches and the 14's.

Good point hadn't thought that far! Perhaps I should lower the car before changing the tyres and if I'm not happy with it sell the wheels and get some 15's or 16's.

I had my car lowered on the standard 14" Elegance alloys and it sat nicely on the alloys

Indeed. This would be your best bet. Then you can decide if you like it or not!

Dump it down on 15's with 195/45 15 tyres.

185/50 14 tyres will ruin your gearing, as the rolling radius will be much less than 185/60s. Standard 185/60 14s with lowered (eibach) springs look good, the gap all round the wheel becomes even, as opposed to being large at the top of the wheel arch.

For alternative tyres you might try 195/55 14s, a rare size but Toyo do them. These will be fatter than your 185/60s and only slightly less on the sidewall depth.
