Loss of power to nearside mirror and window

Featured Replies

Skoda Octavia SLXTDI, 2000 Model.

Just a few days ago noticed the nearside electrical mirror had stopped working and upon further exploration found that the nearside front electric window also not working.

All other windows working.

Suspected a blown fuse but the handbook didn't list a fuse for the windows or mirrors and an inspection of all the fuses didn't find a faulty one.

Ideas appreciated.

There is a sort of fuse, not in the fuse box but up by the relay plate, you will need to remove the cover around the pedals, two torx screws, the fuse is more like a thermo cut out, a silver metal box with green paint on the top. Without a fault code read of the convenience system I would guess that may be the power wire to the door control unit within the door at the bottom may have broken, they can chafe through where it is cable tied to the door. To check remove the door trim panel and have a good look, also check the pins on the door control unit as they are quite fragile and if they get corroded they will break off.

Thanks Fordfan. As I have subsequently found the power to the door lock has also gone, your guess that it is a power cable fault in the door sounds spot on.

Will have a go - which leads on to the next question, how to remove the door trim? I'm sure the forums will have the answer to that one.
