Help - screen wash smells bad

Featured Replies

Hi

Everytime I use screenwash a bad sulphur smell is brought into car via vents. Started after car wasn't used for a week but continuing despite top up with new screen wash. Any tips?

Black VRS

I would have thought the only cure for this is to drain the washer bottle completely, then fill it with a really strong mix of water and your favourite smelly/cleaner stuff :P

yep got the same problem here. Drained it and filled it with fresh stuff. Im assuming its probably got algae growing in it. Anyone know if a cleaner is available for this type of problem?

Smells lovely doesn't it ;) The secret is to not put too much in.

Or to not leave it standing for a week ;)

my filter was gobbed up with algae and gave me the same grief(7 year old heaving in the back seat was hilarious mind you)cured now with halfords apple smelling stuff

Had this problem on the vRS.

Got a piece of hose and syphoned out the tank..then flushed it through.

Worked a treat...agreed though the smell is awful...tastes pretty rough too!

stagnant water , i have to clean out quite a lot of washer pump filters at work , the water stinks terrible , god knows what they've been using for screen wash , i've never had any probs with using Autoglym screen wash , smells nice too

I had this probelm with my Mk3 Ibiza Cupra Turbo so I just removed the washer bottle cleaned it out and filled it up with fresh.

My girlfriend now has this problem with her Fab vRS but I assume the bumper has to be removed to take the washer bottle off and it smells real bad.

Not as pleasent..but easier to syphon it out..takes minutes

does syphoning it get the algae out??

are you sure it's not your battery venting gas into the cabin?

are you sure it's not your a$$ venting gas into the cabin?

You want to try a Peugeot that's been stood for 3 years! :worried: the water was thick and yellow and evil smelling. We just kept filling it up and kept the washers on until it ran out a couple of times. I don't think the smell has returned.

lemon screenwash or the VAG stuff.

 Screen wash in the Octavia has a black film inside it and stinks, so have to clean it out now and again (what do people use ?), as yet same fluid used in the Fabia and no problems so is it only hapening to Octavias ? :thumbdwn:
