Filthy Brake Callipers

Featured Replies

As the title says my brake callipers are very dirty with baked on black dust etc...i also used some crap alloy wheel cleaner the other week that has made them look a little white in places....Whats the best way to clean these. I have tried cleaning them with a toothbrush with good quality alloy wheel cleaner but that didnt work...I have used a high pressure steamer on them too.

Was also thinkin of taking them off and having them resprayed in red , what are your thoughts please

cheers

You've leached out the oils in the paint - put some back in with some wax (not on the braking surfaces, obviously :P )

Get Your wire brush out, give em a good clean, then paint em with Soothrite red.

look great with 2 coats.

for wheels i have found wonder wheels to be excellent just don't leave it on for a long time. use sparingly with the provided brush(i find about 1/4 inch in the lid/cup thingy easily does a set of wheels if not two) wetting, cleaning thoroughly then rinsing before moving onto the next wheel. if you leave it on too long it can knacker the lacquer.

i use Turtlewax wheel cleaner on my wheels and whilst i'm brushing them i brush the calipers as well , works quite well on the calipers , mine are still green , except where the paints pealed on the n/s rear

MC2/Virosol for me everytime

wheel wax when they are clean, then for months you can enoy wipe clean alloys without reapllying and without stains etc. maybe this can be used on brake calipers?

mer wheellwax is tops!

get a can of brake cleaner and spray it on

MC2/Virosol for me everytime

Another vote from me for this stuff. Dilute it in a pump garden sprayer from Homebase and your laughing
