Very bad idle 1.3Mpi 1997 felicia

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

new on here and a bit of help needed. I have just bought a very very tidy R plate Felicia 1.3 L with 63K on the clock (and she wasn't a cheapie either - paid top price for her) owned all its life by an elderly gent. Problem is that when it idles it revs up and then drops then revs up and drops and so on. Infact it is damn embarrasing! Now the L model isn't fitted with a rev counter but my estimate is that its reving up to 3 -4000 rpm then dropping momentarily before rising again. Put it in gear and take foot off the throttle and you feel the car pulling along then slowing down then speeding up and so on.

Now I have bought the car for mum in law and don't want her to feel unsafe in it so whats the best thing to do with getting the car to idle properly?

The car has stood for awhile before I bought it - so having brought it home I filled her up with petrol and gave her an 80mph thrashing hoping that would help (using most of available revs in 1st 2nd and 3rd etc). But it has made no difference. Temp is constant, no water / oil mix so head gasket is ok.

Please advise if you can.

Thanks,

Tim

Hello i have hte exact same problem with mine! a 99 model. its basically the car i think! We got a dealership in elmersend and the salesmen said that it happens to them! ill enquire about this and get bk to it! but im pretty sure its a universal felicia thing.

So, not much hope of a remedy it would seem. Damn electonics!:(

But surely something can be done?

sounds like a classic case of needing the throttle body cleaned and resetting the learned values in the ecu!!! it is well documented on here.... do a search
