What Modifications?

Featured Replies

I have a 1998 Felicia with a 1.6 injection engine fitted. What can I do to mod and tune the car?

Not just the engine but brakes and suspension too plus anything else that's worth doing?

Are there any parts that can be used from other Skoda/VW cars (or anything else) when modding a felicia?

Cheers guys

how much money are we talking here??

there's loads of goodies that will fit a felicia, but it depends how much you want to spent really?

hi there gtsx. i have just started a project using a 1.6 98 glxi hatch. i have got zerosixty discs (talk to awsomesarah) and the 35mm lowering springs (from butts of bawtry) are coming in 2 weeks. the induction kit is going on then aswell as the de-cat. the third stage will be the 15inch g60 golf steels with 195/50/15, why steels you ask?? well that way i can use the octy 15inch hub caps. street sleeper style. and the vw caddy u9 anti-roll bar. then when i win the lotto i will be getting the hp sports shocks. hope that lot helps. if you have any probs send us a pm.

Cheers Pink - That's the sort of thing I was looking for. :)

It seems Tom's a bit like the skyline boys - you can't do it without a wedge of cash and an overdraught :thumbdwn: and all I wanted to do was put an RB25DET from a GTST into an S13 200sx    AWSOME results

no, i'm not talking overdraught material here! I personally like to spend as little as possible to get the desired effect using as many oe parts as possible....

the answer to you question can only really be answered if you have a budget in mind, and to be honest fitting some fancy discs shouldn't be high on your choice of options.....

on the 1.6 felicia engine the first place i would start with modifications is the cylinder head, a little mild porting work here can go a long way, all of which you could do yourself if you are handy with the spanners, when about £150 quid will buy you a slightly hotter camshaft, also i notice you can get stainless manifolds from ebay for about £140 too, although they are strictly speaking deisgned for a 6n polo, it wouldn't take much fettling to make them fit teh felicia downpipe..

suspension wise, as already mentioned above, the 22mm front arb from a late caddy pick-up works wonders in stiffening up the roll characteristics of the car, also there are some high performance uprated dampers/spring available from sachs/zf trading at quite reasonable prices, and having used them on my own felicia i can vouch for the fact that they are bloody good....

the next stage i would suggest would be uprated brakes, with a few modifications and a bit of machining the 280mm front brakes from a vr6 golf can be slotted in there, but obviously this would require at least 15" wheels.... again i would use the cheaper option, as allready mentioned, a set of 15" steel winter weather wheels from a mk2 golf g60......

then tuning wise if funds allowed i would go to an aftermarket programmable ecu and ITB's:) a few years back my own felicia running an emerald m3dk ecu and jenvey 40mm throttle bodies was pumping out circa 140bhp..

also another frequently overlooked modification is fitting a gearbox with different ratio's/final drive... having a lower final drive ratio can improve a car ten-fold without even touching the engine, and at the most you'd probably looking at £150 for a 1.3 felicia gearbox..... basically what i did on mine was swap the bellhouse of the 1.6 felicia box onto an early 1.3 estate transmission unit.... it's definately worth a look anyway!

Before you go uprating the brakes in any major ways try fitting a set of EBC greenstuff pads and getting the rear brakes serviced with high quality shoes and new cylinders etc and use a genuine racing brake fluid.

Believe it or not thats all the braking we needed for rally use! You can take things far further than this, but it doesnt cost many notes and its an nice easy modification with a good pay off.

as for suspension you want the HP kit preferablly the platform adjustable coil overs. This stuff is about the best you will get the affordable side of pro-flex.

Not my auction, but

on ebay, put 130046093855 in the search box

Skoda Felicia Adjustable Sports Suspension Kit

A sports suspension kit for the Skoda Felicia 1.6 it is also suitable for a 1.3 or the Fun Pickup , the kit contains 4 complete suspension units 2 x front and 2 x rear ready to fit with shockers spring and top mounts, the lower spring platform on both front and rear units is adjustable into 3 different setting which I would guess could be used to change the ride height by about 35mm in total.

i have just got a set of sports springs for my 1.6 (35mm lowerd). does any one know if thay would go on the hp sports set, or will i have to sell them once i get the hp set?

I think the hp set use odd sized springs, but the hp is well worth getting, even though this only the sports kit not competition stuff, its still very good for road use. far better than sprints on standard dampers
