bmw 120d or fab vrs

Featured Replies

On a real road with real traffic and real speed limits I'd bet there's nothing between a hot hatch and a supercar TBH.

I disagree. On a winding B road with a clear view and lots of corners and steep uphill sections/hairpins you could loose a hot hatch in a super car without breaking the speed limit. ;)

fabia vRS for enthusiasts?? i don't think i have ever seena fabia vRS other than at a meet driven by someone either under 60 or male. from what i have seen when driving around they are driven by women and old people that want to feel young again but don't to waste all their pension. don't take that as a sladerous statement but from what i have actually seen around oxford and anywhere else i have been tbh.

surely the golf gti and octavia vRS is more of an enthusiasts car as they are petrol so make the right noises, the rights feelings and drive like real cars rather than a tight budget on wheels.

:orb_lol:

:iagree:

obviously going through the likes of central london a super car would have no advantages but they aren't meant for the daily commute through heavy traffic are they?

I think it comes down (once again) to people's perception of what a fast car is and what a good handling car is.

For many, their current hot hatch is the best handling, fastest car they've ever driven. For those people, I suggest you go and blag a day long test drive in an RX8/350Z/Focus ST/M3/Elise - then come back and tell us all how they compare ;)

oh get over yourself was just putting my point across!

which was what, exactly

I love getting suckered into this kind of thread:)

I'm still undecided about a Veyron or a Punto. No one is offering 0% on the Veyron though:mad:

I read in a magazine (in the dentist waiting room, no idea what it was) that they have sold 4 Veyrons in the UK.

When you're stuck 30 cars behind a tractor you're stuck 30 cars behind a tractor. Doesn't matter what you're in. :thumbdwn:

If we're being honest how long do we spend on windy B roads with the pedal to the floor? Not long. How long do we spend doing racing starts to do that 6 second 0-60? Not long. How often do we get to open a car up properly? Not often.

Couple with this the fact that 0-60 is a pretty poor range for expressing a car's performance - 0-100 or 0-120 would be much more indicitave but completely pointless due to speed limits. Your 'fast' car is only just starting to perform by 60 or 70 - the only time the fast car is fast is on a track - off the track there's nothing to chose between them because of traffic, police, pedestrians, cameras etc. If you're fully opening up your M3 on the road you're a danger to yourself and others.

Edit: Back on thread I'm going to Dorset tomorrow in a 1 series (118D).

It's a place where one waits to see the dentist.

HTH

:D

I would add, slightly more on topic, that quite a few people on here wouldn't know a decent handling / performing car if it bit them on the RS :D

The decent handling would be described as "dangerous" at worst or scarey at best

The decent performance would merely get a "could outdrag a Fabia RS".

Unless you have driven a fast, good handling car you have no benchmark.

For the record, I have, and none of them had a Skoda or VW badge. :D

Its so very true(me included) and the whole point:D

As SteVRs pointed out, evryone is bound by the same restrictions on the roads so a 200mph ferrari is as restricted as a fabia in a 30 hph zone. And 99.9% of drivers don't find themselves in a 'race 'scenario and don't do track days.

Rear wheel drive and handling characteristics would mean nothing to virtually every driver that has it.....apart from struggling in snow or losing their bottom on a roundabout.

Still don't believe this can be a genuine thread though;)

Diddnt I just say that ? :P

thankfully i'm going to look at a car which meets my requirements more nowerdays tonight.

might not be sporty but atleast it looks nice and is spacious and safe with lots of kit to make me feel special.

a mondeo tdci 2.2 titanium x for a pleasent £9,000 on an 06 reg with 15,000 miles :)

My works vehicle is well handling and has decent performance, plus point to point (depending on traffic and observing traffic laws.)could beat most supercars on most roads in this Country. It has a 3.6 engine and puts out 295 BHP.

Dennis Sabre Series

;)

I once overtook one of those on the motorway (in my younger, less responsible days)

Obviously not driven Mk5 Golf GTI then....

Quite a few people on here also probably have / do drive a decent handling and performing car, even if you do not. A bit generalistic.

Back on thread- I agree with most comments- its down to how much you want to spend. I traded in Audi A3 Sport Mk 2 for Fabia VRS- down to personal choice and circumstance. I dont want to spend lots of money running one car anymore- Id rather have ones to suit different needs. Audi service sucked too.

I have driven several Mk 5 GTIs, they handle reasonably but there are plenty better. These days a lot of the main stream cars have been dumbed down for the lowest common denominator.

The Golf isn't bad but, even at that price point, there are quicker and better handling cars available.

You are right, I don't have a fast good handling car as my daily driver. Economy is the order of the day for me as I do up to 70k miles per year. On the other hand I have a lot of experience driving such delights as 911 GT3 RS, Carrerra 4S, RUFs, Gallardos, Caterhams, Westfields, S Works Minis, Noble M14s, Elises, Exiges, NSX Type R, 360 CS etc etc on roads and tracks.

Ah yes, a 200bhp FWD car.... As John says, for 20k, there are plenty of faster and better handling cars available :D

was just stating that bmw is well expensive and if you were all that bothered about speed, handling, etc then an elise would be the correct choice!! No need to jump on some one for sayin what they think you TARD.

:nono: careful of the rules adam, play nice children :)

was just sayin what i thought dont wanna argue could nt careless to be honest but think its unfair when u post a replie and someone jumps down your throat thats all!!!

fair enough but sometimes its easy to read too much into things :) i know as i have done it myself many times :o

I will say sorry upfront dont want to lower the tone maybe read more into it so I AM SORRY. hopefully that will sort it

I'll let you off, normally I'd edit it for you or give you a warning for personal abuse :grumpy: I'm in a good mood today though ;)

Chris, learn to drive and these joys could be yours too
