I have now finalised the arrangements with my boss and opted out of the company car scheme ie the 120d although can keep it until end of dec .Still havnt completeley made my mind up about vrs although cant think of an alternative for the price .I would prefer new or nearly new as i comute 60 miles per day .Priority is FUN with ECONOMY.Forgot to mention before my other car is a Caterham7 Roadsport 6speed lsd lots of carbon etc so i am not looking for my everyday car to be too extreme.I can and have beaten m3s elises etc on track

andypandypoos, my point is whateva i choose to say hence my point!! not yours !!

was just stating that bmw is well expensive and if you were all that bothered about speed, handling, etc then an elise would be the correct choice!! No need to jump on some one for sayin what they think you TARD.

Jump on you??? All I was trying to get at was how it's odd that you would claim to hate somebody for the badge on the front of their car, and the irony of looking down on somebody for cheaping out and buying a car that you can't actually afford.

And I wasn't calling you an asshole, merely pointing out how the asshole in a BMW would still be an asshole in, for example, a Mondeo. Just as the considerate person behind the wheel of an MR2 wouldn't suddenly become a **** if they bought a BMW...;)

As for the name calling...my mum's gonna tell your mum, and then you'll be in trouble!

Bah humbug! These Mondeo's are getting common now - think mine might have to go

Chris

:)

It's down to several factors really. When I was 18/19 all I wanted to do was go fast, now that i'm 23, married and settled down (yes I know i'm young :P) I don't fancy driving like a maniac anymore. I still want some get up and go, but I have other things on my mind now and I don't think the Fabia is the car that fits the bill.

I have weighed up for several weeks now what I own the Fabia for, and for every factor I can think of a few cars which get close in one area and beat it in another.

Coming from a Mondeo in the past, it felt like the logical step going forward as I know what A) I'm getting B) It's cheap ;) C) Relatively economic D) Will hopefully be more reliable (both my previous ones were).

With the wedding gone and the mortgage eating up most of my money, I can no longer justify spending in excess of £500.00 per month running my relatively unreliable Fabia that I have fallen out of love with. £260 loan, £100 insurance, £140 diesel and that's without factoring in servicing, tax etc. I pay this whether it works or not, and it spends on average a week in the dealer everytime it gets a 10,000 mile service which usually ends up costing about £200-£400 everytime :(

By selling my current car and buying a Mondeo, I not only save £50 per month on insurance, but my Loan will be £64 per month cheaper, servicing and tax costs will be similar and the performance isn't that much worse than my Modified Fabia & it's got climate, leather seats, full electrics, cruise, xenons, basically all the gadgetry.

Sorry to rant on everyone, but I have enjoyed the highs and the lows of my Fabia but for me it's time to move onwards and upwards

Chris.

£1368 extra to use as a mortgage overpayment.

Glad to see investment in non depreciating assets going on.

One thing to note - the mondy will lose a huge amount of value (this could be more than the VRS? who knows) remember that on top of the £386pcm you are losing a min of £180pcm in deprecation.

The biggest "hidden" car running cost which can easily negate the fuel consumption of a N Reg M5 (which will not lose any value really vs a £7-9k Furby/Mondy). We all know which would be better too M5 any day of the week.

Interesting Welshy, although the plan would be to run the the Mondeo into the ground so it wouldn't make too much difference. I'm aware depreciation on the Mondeo is bad as I lost £5k on my last one, but as I would only be running the Fabia into the ground if I were to keep that, it makes no difference and I think the Mondeo would be a lot more reliable (well tbh, anything has to be).

And yes, an extra £1368 for starters makes a big diference to my mortgage as an overpayment (already making £100pm extra into it just to try and get rid of some of the interest) ;)

Chris.

Ouch buying a Mondy at the end of the model life... be prepared for massive losses. Even if you had a lemon of a Skoda fixing it would be far cheaper than the depreciation you are going to suffer.

A suggestion for you why not sell the Skoda for say £7k (or what ever it is worth) then buy yourself a £500 car with 12 months MOT. And forget about milage just buy the best condition car you find in that budget.

Then dump that £6.5k into your mortgage/loan etc the amount you will save on the depreciation will be around £150pcm the interest on the mortgage you will save is about £30pcm. So a total saving of £2.2k

As ou have said your gettig older now and value the a-b of a car moreso than its looks/appeal. TO be frank you could end up with a nice 3ltr petrol and even if the MPG is 25 it will not matter.

Massive losses?! The Titanium X RRP is over 20 grand and he's buying an '06 plate for less than half that. I can't see depreciation being a big issue on that car, even with a new model coming out. :D

I'd agree. It sounds like he got a bloomin good deal to me. The car will now depreciate relatively slowly, as the major loss has already been had.

Hello all,

Sorry i'm late to the party, but as I used to have a vRS and have now moved to a 1-series, I though i'd be well placed to express my opinions (which i'd probably do anyway..)

I really loved my (re-mapped) Fabia vRS for the fact that it was so cheap and frugal to run, yet punched well above its weight. But, and it was a big BUT, I just didnt get excited over driving it. I never took the "long way home" or went out for a drive just for the sake of it.

Then I drove a 130i M-sport and it blew me away. I've had the 1er nearly 7 months now and it still deeply impresses me with, well, everything. It really is a superb car.

However there is one big catch for some people.

Cost.

There is no denying that the Fabia was a far cheaper vehicle to own (90% of that being purchase price - bar fuel consumption my 1er is pretty cheap really) and that DOES make a big difference. But my reasoning is that I dont want to be on my death bed looking back over my life with thousands sitting in the bank thinking "what if" or "I wish I'd done that".

So I took the financially stupid decision to buy the BM - and Ive loved every minute of it.

For the specs the 120D has, though yes it is a Beemer and I like them, I wouldn't put my money on it if I can get the same performance and spec for half the price.

What you can do if you're brand crazy is replace the Skoda badges of the Fabia with BMW badges (yes, they fit, I've seen it done over here!!!! )

I quite like the 1 series Beemer , the 130 M sport is the one I'd like as well , pity they are nearly £27K plus options tho , a bit on the dear side for 'entry level'!

For that money I would rather have a new TT, probably as much space in the back and the 2.0t is meant to be a sweeter engine than the V6. Or if I was hellbent on a Beemer, then I would spend the money on a 3 series tourer

When you're stuck 30 cars behind a tractor you're stuck 30 cars behind a tractor. Doesn't matter what you're in. :thumbdwn:

the tractor should pull in and let u past.....

couldnt the same be said for the Fabia though, given that the new model is out in January .

But yes I know depreciation is an issue, but not when i'm getting a huge saving....

I would get the Veyron!!

Is that the right answer? LOL
