Headlight Protectors On vRS With Xenons???

Featured Replies

Ok just been in the local dealer and the chap in parts told me about their current promotion for headlight protectors and asked if i wanted some. Now when i bought the car in May i had a little leaflet showing the items you could buy for your Fabia. One of them was the headlight protectors but it had a little note saying they weren't suitable for Fabia models fitted with xenons.

I mentioned this to the chap today who pulled up the skoda info for the protectors and it now doesn't have the note....... He also said that they had 'been approved' for fitting on the Octy's that have xenons and made a call to check if it was now the same for the Furby ones. After the call it appears that the protectors for the furby are still not to be fitted to xenon headlights but he was unsure why.......

Ok....... Anybody know the official reason why????

The only thing i can think of is that there is a chance that road dirt could get between the headlight and the cover and defract the beam....... That being the reason xenon fitted cars have washers etc....

Cheers

Dave.

*s******* guess who hasn't read the title or opening thread properly!

Anyway, I cant really think of a reason to be honest, light is light, so I dont see how it can be affected any differently to normal headlights with protectors on?

Xenons run colder than halogens too so it cant be a heat issue?

ProTectors not proJecters..

They get too hot, would be my guess.

Deleted.... :o Tired lol!!

One small bit of dirt on a small area of an Xenon Light is projected to create one large 'dead area' on the beam. Where as a small bit of dirt on a halegen light wouldn't make that much difference as it is reflected rather than projected.... so to eliviate the risk of dirt between the protector and the lens i would assume they are not issued.

But xenons run much cooler than halogens though.

They run much cooler, and it IMHO is no problem at all as this is how the continental converters work.

That said the problem is if the thing scratches you'll potentially blind people, apparently.

... and you have a 5mm gap between the headlight glass and the cover/protector to provide a flow of air for cooling.

I had some protectors on an Omega with Xenons for three years with no ill effect, just got to keep them clean and take the cover off occaisionally to clean it etc.

Have a look at these though Headlight Protectors# as I have fitted to my Furby, with the carbon look surround.

I used the Skoda accessory headlamp protectors with beam defletion on my Fabia VRS with xenons , on the Ring trip , didn't have a problem , but then again i don't remember actually putting them on ,whilst on the continent , so mine were just for show
