eBay 'HID-look' bulbs - Any good? Are they legal?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've noticed some replacement bulb sets on ebay - Xenon discharge, blue tinted, HID look etc. An example would be item number 180046498796.

Has anyone tried these? Are they any good, and more importantly are there issues of legality with using these bulbs? Some of the auctions I have seen say that they are legal, but this one doesn't. I'm clueless about the rules regarding headlamps anyway.

I'd be grateful for any help / suggestions!

Thanks

James

All they will be is those blu-tinted bulbs..

your far better getting some from powerbulbs.com

You get what you pay for. And I wouldn't waste a tenner on those you've found.

Either seek out a suitable HID kit or get some decent uprated std bulbs from Powerbulbs (as above) - the offerings from Philips or Osram are generally best.

Great, thanks for the advice. I thought the ebay ones looked suspect!

Thanks again

James

No probs - and there's 10% off available from Powerbulbs if you look in the right places :)

I had a set of the Blue Tinted Ebay bulbs, if they are 'E' Marked they are legal, personally I found that they were absolute rubbish, first one blew in 2 days, second in 3, seller replaced them twice then refunded me, good seller but bad product. The light off them actually gives you a downgrade on the road.....as said previously if you want better lighting a HID kit is the way to go or alternatively one of the Bulb upgrades, I used Ring 50% and they were very good compared to the standard lights.
