How do I disable an old email address?

Featured Replies

A couple of months ago my internet provider made everyone change their email addresses and gave them a new one and a deadline to make sure all contacts were aware.

So I have had my new email address but, all the spam and junk that I have received recentely about Viagra and loans and offering me the best sex possible by extending my manhood by an extra three inches  keeps coming. I get about ten to twenty a day and the block sender doesn't seem to work because I think they use different email addresses to send from

What I have noticed is that they are sent to my old email address and I am still receiving them along with normal non spam stuff in my new one. So, can I disable this old one and hope for a clean inbox?

Pix :)

You can certainly try. If it's the same ISP you should be able to contact their support department and ask them to delete the old one.

It's worth a try - depends on how helpful their support people are and if you speak to someone with a clue. It's not Orange/Wanadoo per chance?

The spammers will catch up with you eventually anyway :(

I am way too wired to use my brain this evening. But I was talked through how to transfer files from millenium to XP on the way back from B&Q earlier :D Don't ask!

Is Walkie still stalking you Pix? Oh Dear.

I would love to reply and tell them that infact I am a female and the last time I investigated I definetely did not have a manhood and I do not need any help to improve my sex life!

Although it's probably best I don't. I already may get into trouble for telling the automated phone booking voice for my local cinema where to go when I got frustrated the other night.

Borat was ace

Pix which e-mail client you got?

Outlook express, but doesn't everyone use that?

no not a hope in that everyone does.

Two options:

- If lookout express has rule sets create a rule to automatically trash everything to your old address in the short term to stop you seeing the spam.

- Download thunderbird ( Thunderbird - Reclaim your inbox ) and use that. It has a junk mail filter which is fairly quick to train and also has rules so you could automatically delete anything from your old account.

Thunderbird is the mail client made by people who did firefox.

As I said, the new email account seems to not receive the viagra and Athens stuff. It's always addressed to the old account so I think I'll wait till monday and see what Wight cable say.

Thanks, as always :)

I rang my service provider yesterday and they have disabled my old account. It seems to have done the trick

FWIW Pixi

I had an influx of these about a month ago maybe. I put it down to an automatic "round-robin" marketing exercise to see if anyone replied, as no other changes were relevant to that particular computer. (I didn't reply and have had no more since.) Needless to say, I did all the usual checks of programs on my computer and a couple of on-line ones.

You can get personal programs to filter eMails so that they are held or bounced before they arrive on your computer.
