Viewing a vRS

Featured Replies

Hi chaps, Im due to view a vRS next weekend. It has 69k on the clock and a FSSH, any pointers on what to look out for?

Many thanks.

Andrew

not a lot really, ask if the coil packs have been changed and other than that as long as its standard i can't really think of anything else as they are pretty reliable when standard :)

don't worry about 1st being notchy they are all like that :)

At 70K miles the cambelt would need changing, so I'd ask about that as well.

Cheers, the car is going for

If he's going to service it, make sure he does the cambelt (unlikely). Alternatively, haggle more on the price and service it yourself.

Thats what I was thinking. Ideally Id want the cambelt/rollers/waterpump done so Ill try and get him down to 5,500 (£180 off - half each towards getting that done)

Right, well, that one went before I could see it. Off to see another with low 40,000s on the clock. Its a 2001 model - what time length is the cambelt changed? 6 years?

Cheers.

Hmmm, I will ask! Cheers matey.

I would also check the following. Exhaust mounts on centre box can shear off. They can be tack welded back on. Listen for clanging when going round bumpy corners. Also front anti roll bar bushes are prone to wear. They will squeak or groan going over speed bumps etc. All that was on my 20 000 mile Vrs. It had been driven a lot down bumpy single track roads by previous owner.

Got the car in the end, 2001/Y in red with 43k FSSH. £5400. Drove it home today, its in excellent condition, alloy spare hasnt even been used!

The 240 mile drive each way was fun though :|

its worth going a distance for a deal though, its not like you have to drive that distance evry day :)

I know, I love it already! A few stone chips/marks, but its 5 years old.

What about this timing belt as he has queried Skoda and theyve said its ok...would the lot need to be done? (Belt/rollers/waterpump?)

Cheers peeps.

Welcome Liverpool-lad from a fellow scouser.

Hope you enjoy your Vrs, the slippery slope of mods nows starts here!

Howdy mate, just down the road from me, I live near ther Nethy pub by Bootle Golf Course.

if your getting the belt done then definitely get the rollers/pulleys and water pump done at the same time. if your changing the water pump don't bother with an OEM one as the impellers are made of plastic :thumbdwn: get a first line as they have a brass(i think) impeller so more reliable, they are also cheaper than OEM :)

No one has mentioned the obvious thing to look out for --------- Speed cameras and your licence :D
