quiet whistling sound from Engine on Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

I have a faint whistling sound from the engine of my Fabia vRS. Thought at first that it was the turbo, but sceptical since it occurs at idle.

Having attached Vag-Com, the sound goes away when with EGR valve is fully open. ie EGR On through Basic Settings 3

Do others have this sound? or does it suggest a leak somewhere in the EGR vacuum piping?

Thanks.

Don't worry about it. it's the car whistling a happy tune because you love it and it wants to please you.:D

( They all do it!)

cant say that ive heard mine whistle unless like you say the turbo is spinning:cool: im with you and a small leak.

Mine did this all the time, nowt to worry about imho. If you are worried get it looked at for peace of mind. :)

Nothing to worry about. Perfectly normal.

Worry when the turbo starts whining...

Yep mine does it. You sit there with it idling and it seems to just run the turbo up a bit then it goes away again for a while. Still working OK at nearly 50,000 miles so I wont worry about it yet.

Chris

my one does it can be a bit annoying at times give it a quick blip on the revs and it will die down for a minute or 2

Thanks all.. Happier in the knowledge that I'm not the only one experiencing the sound.. Will investigate further though. I still don't think its the turbo spooling at idle. I would see no reason for the ECU to control spool up and spool down at idle and still confused as to why I can get it to "whistle on demand" through toggling the EGR valve.

EGR operation is on a timer; it cuts in (or out, I've forgotten which) after about 2 minutes of idling.

mine whistles too. I found it's the power steering. it's sounds like a police car if you wiggle the steering wheel :)
