Some niggles with my Fabia

Featured Replies

I am thinking I am going to have to spend out a little bit of money to sort these out.

Firstly, my windscreen wipers are utterly pants and I have been looking at diffrent ones. I followed a link from a website I saw on briskoda and they recommended I get these. I am worried that if I buy them I won't be able to work out how to fit them, and also are they truely going to be better than the ones I have? Can anyone vouch for them being good?

Secondly, at the last MOT and service they said something was worn on the back brakes. I am not totally sure what they mean, but when they pointed it out to me it was the shiny silver circle bit that the green things grab on to. Sorry for the ignorance, but are these disk, drums, pads or something else entirely? I have been looking at buying new ones, but not actually sure what I am looking at.

They said there was no immediate hurry to replace them, but I figured brakes are not something you pi$$ about with so I might get that done now rather than in 6,000 mile servce.

I know at the moment my car has green stuff (or something), and a few people told me that these were pants, does anyone know how I can slightly upgrade my brakes without having to get those TT things.

Thirdly, my cruise control seems to have a mind of its own, and gains speed according to the GPS talex speed. Had my car's warranty not just expired I would get this fixed, but as I use the cruise as more of a something to play with rather than normally (I just can't get used to it) it is not too much of a trouble.

Forthly (I have been saving these up), my 6 disk CD changer does not like using slot 4 and sometimes 5, has anyone else had this?

I think I am done now, ta in advance

I think they are referring to your brake discs

Brake discs are probably worn, I would stick normal brake pads on as well, they work just fine for normal driving (IMHO of course)

Regarding wipers, I've stuck with the standard ones for the time being, I may change them to aero ones at some point, and those who have done so like them.

That said I did about 40k on the original blades (within the year) and they work well.

As you meet up with some other Briskodians regularly, I'm sure you could ask them for a hand switching blades over, shouldn't be a big deal :D

I reccomend you just go to your yokel skoda dealer and get a replacement std set... around 19quid for all three..

i dont see how aero ones can be any better (apart from being more expensive)

Apparently less noise, less likely to freeze to windscreen.

yes emily, your rear brake discs are stuffed! i noticed that at the ashton court meet, and that was months ago..... time to get them changed methinks

but iirc your pads are virtually brand new

Maybe it's just lack of exercise (how often do you select the CDs in these slots?).

Or it may be the cartridge that the CDs are in. Next time you're at a meet, find somebody else with a Skoda CD changer and see if their cartridge works OK in your unit.

EE get rid of the green stuff and stick to the OEM ones , you should be ok then was the fronts ok?

I still have my old bosch blades if you want them. I stuck them in the box my aero wipers came in....

Had trouble with my cd changer as well could be a bit tempermental in the cold. Just take it out and put some other cd's in as well, as these could be the problem as well.

I think I need new back disks as well at the moment they are just ok but not that expensive to be honest just wear and tear items

Tony

Just to be aware, my rear brakes were just inspected at my last service (60k) and stated as fine until the next service (70,000 miles!) they are the original disks, and have had a new set of pads at 33k.... so to re-iterate 70k on the same disks....

however, I know the spec of your car, so your's could wear faster, especially if you have non-standard pads on..... and mine usually gets driven gently ;)

Hi,

have you thought about polishing your windscreen to cure the winscreen wiper issue? I diamond brighted the whole car today and also did the screen, my windscreen wipers have gone from poor to excellent.

What does OEM stand for and where can I get them? Thanks.

Yeah, and they are still squaky after a lot of use. Basically I want to be able to buy the parts and take the car to the local TVR garage that I am using now as I am fed up with my Skoda dealers. I want to get them to fit these boot speaker things I got at the same time. I am just unsure about what it is I am going to need to buy for both.

I would class my windscreen wipers as actually dangerous tbh. When on rain in the motor way they just don't budge a huge amount of water directly over the windscreen infront on me. I think they are missing some wind deflector that glues them to the screen. It is going to take more than cleaning.

Yeah, how much do you want for them?

Original Equipment Manufacturer, its what came with the car from the factory

e

Emily.......you have no idea how cute you can be sometimes

Get some Renault Aero wipers for a Megane2 or a Scenic 1. Direct fit

Yeah, how much do you want for them?

Nothing - I just kept them so I wouldn't have to throw them out. I'm a bit of a fan of the aero wiper look, so have no plans to reinstate them on my motor.
