That looks like the part.

I've just had car towed to a local independant.

One of the three fingers has snapped off the part in question. The spring and locking colar had therfor released and let go of the cable. :(

I'm wondering if that is classed as gear selector as then it will be covered by warrenty direct. What does EKTA call that part and anyone got any guesses of parts cost.

I'd DIY but i can't afford to have car off the road due to work.

which one part number 46

part 46 is called a bowden cable catch 1jo 711 761c

also needed is n908 159 03 lock washer

if you need to know more you'll have to hang on as i'm starving gotta go get lunch (well i am fat)

number 42 is called an abutment! they do give these things strange names for some reason

1J0 711 761 C is £5 plus Mafia Tax

Take the number from your one though as there may be different sizes.

Got the part on order for tomorrow at £4 something plus the VAT.

who'd have thought that a tiny little piece of plastic would cause so mucg grief?? silly really, in the old days, when vw made good cars, that part would have been stainless steel!

I guess it saves a few pence for VAG.... at the expense of reliable motoring for the customer :-(

Don't get me started on that.

It was obviously a money saving exercise, but seems a bit crazy, bearing in mind that a failure will take the car off the road until fixed :(

Thanks for all your help guys :)
