Parking tickets!?!

Featured Replies

Can anyone explain what is legally deemed as an obstruction with regards to a parking ticket?

Check the local regulation. It all depends on where it happened and what restrictions are in place. Any more detail maybe?

Well worth googling for. Lots of people have "issues" with regulated/deregulated parking enforcement.

I'm browsed several websites in the past but none I stored the URLs for.

i'll upload some pics of where i was parked when ive got 5 mins, Its quite hard to explain. I wasnt parked on double yellows or any form not parking zone. I wasnt blocking anything or anybody and got a bloody ticket whilst in uni. (and sorry for posting it in the wrong section, just realised)

If you were parked across an access (driveway, entrance, even a loading door perhaps?), or blocking the highway sufficiently to cause two way traffic to have to pause to let one another past, and/or got a copper in a bad mood . . . . thing is, when it comes to highway obstruction (as opposed to access obstruction)l, there is more margin on the part of the copper's decision - if they're in a bad mood they can (quite legitamately) give you a 'harsh' ticket. :(

Have you got a photo of the location?

Surely that's not enough?! I know that lots of planners deliberately use parked cars now to slow traffic down. Maybe if *nobody* could pass, but then I think the OP would have a good idea as to why he was ticketed ;)

Why do you think it's legitimate for someone to dole out a "harsh" ticket just coz they're in a bad mood? :D

And I agree - photos would be good.

I didnt think obstructing the road was necessarily even against the law. It's in the highway code, but no regulations are referenced to it. At least I remember looking when someone else posted, that someone parked across the road when they were parked, and obstructed the road so their car kept getting clipped as cars tried to pass. I couldnt actually find any rules against it :o

I think there's a few other things, like obstructing an emergency vehicle, that you could potentially get done for though.

Just don't pay it until they prove they had the authority to issue a ticket and can show you which laws you were breaking, evidence, etc.
