Made a dent in my vRS!

Featured Replies

Ohh no it happend! I made a dent in my almost new vRS while parking - damn!

Well it is only a small dent, but it has gone through the paint exposing the metal, so it needs fixing!!

One of my friends is doing plating at a carshop and has offered his assistance. Im very tempted to say yes, but what about the Skoda twelve year warrenty on the car body agains rust/corrosion? Will that become void if I my friend is doing the plating and paint work?

I do have insurrence, but my premium will definitely go up if i try to get my inssurence to pay :thumbdwn:.

I'd be inclined to take your friend up on the offer. Worse case you'll just lose Skoda cover on the area that is/was dented.

Where are you from?

Unfortunately that is warranty on it starting from the inside, not from the outside after damaging the paint work though ;)

Touch up and/or proper repair job sounds like the best/cheapest at this point

Thanx for the replies!!

I'm from Sweden!

So does this means my body corrosion warranty is void now that the paint-seal has been broken? Or is it just void at that particular place of damage?

I have attatched a picture of my poor injured Fabia

No. You've not effected your warranty as such. If you returned to Skoda or another VAG body specialist, and got your car done (at a hefty price) All would be fine.

If you went to a backstreet person etc, Skoda would void it, depending on how good the person is. Hopefully it wouldn't be seen.

I heard a rumor from a VAG insider that half of the corrosion warrenty period will be lost if the body repair goes on record. That is, it will only cover for 5-6 years because of the official body repair. That makes one wonder... It sure puts a freeze on my enthusiasm of doing this by the book.

Apart from having it on record at a VAG dealer there is also the cost doing it the official route, plus they probably take it to a bodyshop type place to get it done anyway. If you are able to go to one direct, chances are warranty will be maintained ;)

I had similar and involved the kind assistaance of my father who did some repair for me, and I am sure you could replicate the same with a little time on your hands and save some cash.

However, he is retired but was a major representative for the abrasives industry having very close contact with Skoda and other companies....so I guess that gives him an unfair advantage.....:>

You need the right materials, and the right aptitude to the job (perhaps looking up some car bodywork links would help).

My father did an excellent job in pressing out as far as possible at a similar non-self inflicted damage left by some **** who almost took my front light out, but it only pushed in the metal. A very difficult repair area.

It hasn't actually been finished - he only spent 1-2 hrs on it so far but did such a good job I wasnt so bothered anymore and its my partners car now :>

I think the trick is not to over-do it when trying to push out the metal (I am both unsure of the damage, and equally unsure of you can reach behind the wheelarch on the fabias if there is a need to "press" back in) , and then you can use the most appropriate industry grade fillers in various grades to bring the surface finish back to a "flat" surface. The lightest paste of course when there is nothing but small cracks or spots to be filled, or shape to be recovered.

Then you need equal patience on the paint and micro-abrasive to take the paint looking good, with equal consideration if its 2-tone/metallic etc - patience is the key. Make sure you get the colour-matched paint, pen will possibly do if its a small area provided you can settle with your own efforts.

Remember if you leave the paint to settle (1 day min) you can always abrase it over again if you aren't happy with the finish.

"FinesseIT" including pads may be a good tool in your arsenal.

Good luck. PS how about some better pictures of the damage.
