When I met you Graham ;)

Why do so many people have to big themselves up by making out they come from a working class background and "made" themselves

Because it makes you look like you've had to work harder / be better at your job than your "privileged" peers?

funny how top gear magazine got our collegues in bromsgrove to remap the very latest vrs a few weeks ago.......made a huge improvement too!!!!

With the 1.8T and its variable output..150bhp,180,225,237(?) in all its VW group guises. Apart from maybe the 225,237 did any of the others have uprated clutches/brakes?

Killed myself laughing reading his books though:D

Answering both points - I was reading a ~6month old issue of Octane, which was talking about a non-UK Polo, which is basically the one Clarkson tested, but with a bodykit and the 180brake tune engine in it. Which means that everything he says in that article is actually so much Buzzcocks! He's just gone down further in my estimations (as anything except a Tv presenter).

And I'd say I'm middle-class. Dad a manager in a clearing bank, Mum a teacher before she married, and me a software engineer.

The point is, Mr Clarkson feels that 150bhp is more than adequate in a Polo GTi, but advocates remapping a Mini One, via a long winded and amusing rant about spotty computer geeks.

Get over it.

This would be a new definition of "amusing"; one which involves regurgitating nonsensical stereotypes rather than being original or witty.

It's arguable that that was his point. But then you'd lose the argument :)

The point of the article (if there was one) was to get all us spotty computer geeks and car bores discussing his latest editorial thereby keeping him at the head of the pack. Yet another online thread about Clarkson's published opinions with some people "correcting" his misguided ramblings and others defending the quality of his journalism. How many other motoring correspondents would your mum know of? Maybe the other Top Gear presenters - Hammond perhaps, as he's been in the news a bit...

Clarkson knows what pushes our buttons and he exploits it to the full. Well played that man. So long as we bite, he'll keep earning - good for him. He's like the ultimate troll :D

he's a big fat hairy gay who has forgotten his roots.

THE END :D

Get over it.

I don't really care.It's not really a scientific analysis.

I just think he is a very funny journalist and as usual, thought his article raised a smile (or should have done):)

I like Clarkson, find his writing and TV work amusing and don't care that he thinks my car is seriously uncool. It is.

Indeed. It's the un-cool-ness of the brand that attracts me :)
