CPC light

Featured Replies

Swmbo Fabia 2.0i has had a few starting problems over the last couple of days.

Tonight after she could not start it, I jumped in and after a few twists and stabs at the throttle it fired up, however the CPC light stayed on for a few miniutes.

After turning off and starting again it did not come on

What does the CPC light mean ?

Anybody any ideas of the cause?

Would look in the handbook, but it's in the car with swmbo at work.

Cheers,

Do you mean EPC?

if so, its anything that has to do with the car electronics, it could be a low battery i guess

Edit.. i mean EPC :P

Could be EPC, Electronic Power Control - it is to do with the Drive BY Wire (DBW) system, and it will come on if it detects a problem. One such cause is a faulty brake light switch.

Yeah sorry meant EPC, Popped into the dealers today who ran a quick check, but nothing showed up.Have booked it in for them to have it overnight for a couple of days next week.

It happened once in my car that the EPC light came on for a while and then it went off and never came on again and everythin is runnin fine so far, The car was off for around 2 weeks so the battery was a bit weak and it made the EPC light come on, when it recharged the light went off again

Hello Everyone,

SWMBO's car has just been diagnosed with duff brake light switch, even though the brake lights work.

I cannot understand what could be wrong with it, and why it's affecting the EPC system - any suggestions??????

I mentioned to the service receptionist (at a well known Fareham dealer) that I would change it myself, but she strongly advised against it, as "we break lots of them trying to fit them sir". This tells me that this fault is another Fabia foible, can it be that difficult?

Would I need VAG COM to reset the EPC light or will it reset after the switch is changed? Is it easier to let them do it?

Love the car but we've had our fair share of electrical gremlins since we've had it.

I believe because it's DBW, all the accelerate/brake/tc control systems will be tied together and the EPC is a generic light for all. I think the brake light fault is intermittent which might be why the brake lights worked when you tested it?

Chris

Thanks Chris,

a search has revealed all - should have done that first! How can they make a car with so many electrical snags???? I'll be getting a purple switch then.

Fabia-vrs.com - Technical Section

Should cover it!!

I am also local to said dealers and I have VAG-COM if you have any trouble once you've changed it ;)

Many Thanks for the offer Stu, I'll probably let them change the switch, but I'll remove lower dash trim to keep labour to half an hour (or less?). I cannot believe that such a simple device can be made so complicated - cos they can!!!

MDK1, Bring it with you to Maidstone on friday and I'll have a look for you if you like on t'computer.
