Reversing sensor problem.....

Featured Replies

Just recently the reversing sensors on my Superb 1.9tdi have stopped operating normally. The bleep sounds when I put it into reverse gear as per normal but then I get a long bleep as if I am about to hit something! The 'normal' bleeps do not sound at all. Does anyone have any idea what this could be before I take it into the dealer? Thanks in anticipation.....

try having a look some dirt may be painted on them or it could have slipped slightly out its hole (i have had this prob several times since new rear bumper put on

you need to push your hand in bumper and check them

Hope this helps

Would also look for dirt covering the sensor.

Mine has done this many times and it isn't to do with dirt.

The sensors just need to be reset and calibrated as over time the range 'changes', mine for example goes crazy even when reversing off a kerb, mind you the lowering hasn't helped!!

Take it to the dealers and they will sort it.

I have the exact same problem - short beep and than a long beep followed by nothing. This happened about a month ago and the dealer replaced a sensore - but the problem has come back agin today after working ok since dealer changed the sensor. Going back in again in Thursday. Did you ever get to the bottom of it.

Thanks Pete - sounds as if it is a common problem. Will let you know how I get on after Thursday when mine goes in

Just serviced my car. When I reset the service interval using VAG-COM I also checked the various other units for fault codes.

I have a 'rear left sensor - short to ground' fault recorded. I cleared it, but it comes back straight away when the car is put into reverse.

Anyone know if this is a duff sensor or if it could be wiring short. I do not wish to go pulling half the wiring harness to bits if I just need to swap the sensor.

Also which is the rear left sensor - there are two rear left sensors !

its just a duff sensor mate, see that fault every day.

Took mine to dealer today - had TWO new sensors fitted and now working ok. That makes THREE sensors fitted in the last month?

John

What do they cost to buy ? I'm out of warranty so would be doing the changeover myself.

i THINK MINE WAS £71 + vat FROM THE DEALER, BUT THEY FITTED IT

i THINK MINE WAS

Hi, does anyone know where the sensor control unit is , and is it easy to get at

passenger side rear in luggage compartment

Hi again, does that mean the CD changer and trim etc, have to be removed to get at it ?

Just had the ECU for the reversing sensors replaced on my superb but it has not solved the problem. Sometimes the sensors work, sometimes I get the long beep (indicating that they will not work) and sometimes I get nothing - which usually means they just will not work at all.

Interesting though - every parking manoevre is a new adventure.....

Mine goes in tomorrow to have a new reversing unit fitted.

Hi, got in touch with a firm who supply parking sensor parts , but they need to know what make are in the superb, anyone know how to get at the parking sensor control unit:confused:

regards.

Hi again, just for anyone else who might have this problem'

After a lot of questions to and no answers from different sources, I have eventually found the parking sensor control unit, its located behind the right hand side trim in the boot.

The unit is made by META SYSTEM AUTOMOTIVE but unfortunately all the sensors are connected into one terminal block,

I priced a sensor at the skoda dealers and was quoted 140 euro(one sensor), so the next time its stops raining here I am going to try and disconnect the faulty sensor from its block and run (reverse) on remaining 3,

Having had them all replaced under warranty in March 06, they've started playing up again. Pretty crazy. I reckon not fit for purpose, that they can't last more than 14 months.

Not happy and will be telling dealer same.

Will let you know how I get on, but may just leave it until next service if they are going to charge for it, by which time it'll be paid for and getting traded in - Then it'll be their problem all over again...

Me car is Octy 2002 TDI Elegance MK1.

Just had the very same problem occur with long beep then nothing on reverse, luckily lifted the carpet in the boot and noticed the cable that goes through to the bumper was wearing away, a little twiddle and my sensors are back again! Must remember to tape it up.

BTW I just noticed that my reverse parking sensor only seems to be utilising the driver's side back door tweeter and not the passenger side, is this right?

Thanks in advance!

If they are factory ones and using the original speakers then it should use the speaker on the side where the obstruction is.

And fault codes will usually tell you what sensor is faulty, if not a quick look in value measure blocks will as it give the distance reading of each sensor.

They are factor fitted.

I did a tested by putting my hand over the passenger side bumper and the noise still came through the driver side speaker, so I'm not quite sure if it a cost saving by only wiring one speaker.

Thanks for lightning quick response

This has happened to me on three occasions in the last 6 months. Each time I had a sensor replaced and the problem was cured. I think you will find that these sensors are perhaps not the most robust.
