How to host a domain name with email addresses?

Featured Replies

Hi

Don't know much about this, or how to do it, so I thought I'd ask for some advice. Basically my Dad owns the rights to a domain name www.balderston.co.uk and had various email address (******@balderston.co.uk). The company that was hosting it seems to have disappeared and the email addresses have stopped working. He'd like these to work again, and has asked me to try and sort it out for him. Unfortunately, whilst being fairly computer literate, this so far appears to be a bit beyond me, so any advice on how I go about it (as cheaply as possible) would be greatly appreciated. He doesn't really have a site to host, he'd just like his email address to work again!

Thanks

Ol

I've used 34sp.com in the past and they were good to me. They offer various hosting packages and you can use your own domain name.

The biggest problem will be transferring the DNS records for the domain. If the currently unobtainable host has put a "Domain Lock" in place, then you will have difficulty doing the transfer. The current domain registrar must release this before the transfer can proceed. This request must be originated from the currents domain "Admin contact" on the whois database. If this cannot be done then you will not be able to transfer the domain to another registrar. In this situation you may have to wait until the domain has expired and re-register it again in your name.

123reg include email forwarding for free IIRC, then have it sent to the ISP email addy.

i have mine through easily.co.uk - when i moved domain to them i to contact the name registrar - nominet and get the tag of my site changed to easily's one.

another vote for 123reg

i use uk2.net and never had a days problem.

Follow the instructions on here mate. I went through a similar situation where my old registrar went into liquidation. After a fax and loads of forms to fill out I paid the

So, to summarise:

1. Choose a new domain registrar and hosting company (they may be the same, or you may choose to register the domain somewhere like 123reg.co.uk and forward it once you have chosen your hosting company). Obviously you need to choose a hosting package that gives you the number of email addresses you need - although many of them offer unlimited email addresses for a very nominal amount these days.

2. Initially use the new registrar's "transfer domain in" facility. Wait a few days and see if the domain transfers successfully.

3. If the domain shows no sign of moving (because the liquidated ISP isn't doing their part of the transfer) - go to the Nomimet page in the previous post, and follow the instructions for having Nominet move it for you.
