Octavia II + Belkin Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector

Featured Replies

Hi,

New member here so treat me gently ;)

I bought one of these Belkin things today...

Welcome to Belkin - Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector

I get appalling buzzing from it and AWFUL sound quality when connecting it to the Aux socket in the Jumbo box. The 3.5mm jack lead I'm using is OK (works fine directly from the headphone socket of Ipod) so I can only assume the thing is faulty - anyone else used one of these and had any luck?

Thanks for any advice/replies.

Cheers

Colin

PS - I LOVE the car - Race Blue VRS - big grins to come once the first 1000 miles or so is done :D

I'm pretty sure that there is a fix for this. I believe it's something to do with the earth on the head unit.

Have sent a PM to someone who should be able to enlighten you a bit more

I had the same connected to the Aux input on my mfd2.

The buzzing was so bad I took the lot out!

If there is a solution that would be great.

And hello Colin F by the way.

I found I had a buzzing problem when I installed my MFD2. I narrowed it down to an earth issue.

Have a look on my octavia website under MFD2 and it is explained there.

Stu, I don't think your fix for the 2007MY Octy with cd changer problem applies in my case.

When connected via the Belkin Auto leads kit I got a buzzing that followed the engine revs. If I just used the Belkin as a charger and used the headphone socket connected to the aux input it still buzzed. The only way it worked was without the Belkin connected at all.

I know someone who has successfully used one in B*W's so I am not sure.

I would like to see how Makefish's solution with the A/V connector works with the Belkin Auto leads connector as that is powered/earthed I believe. (Might be wrong)

I am also liking the Dension Ice Link as fitted in another thread but not til the New Year.

Thanks for the replies guys.

One of the suggested solutions from elsewhere is to fit a "ground loop isolator" such as this Ground Loop Isolator

- obviously this one is wired for phonos but that could be changed. Any views as to whether that is likely to cure the problem? I'm reticent to start ripping out the head unit on a new car (chicken!).

Cheers Colin

According to the manual the Aux socket it designed for use with battery powered equipment. Therefore it would appear that the audio "Ground" is not the same as the -ve battery supply. Frequently, third party manuafcturers assume that both Grounds are the same and link them together. The only solution is to use some sort of isolator, amybe the Maplin one will do, you'll just going to need some RCA-Jack convertors and you'll be able to try it without removing anything.

BTW: RCA=Phono
