Anyone seen this new Millers diesel additive?

Featured Replies

Does your car meet any of these: :P:rofl:

Recommended especially for modern Euro IV compliant vehicles with catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters

Does look good though and as I've run out of Power Plus, I might give this one a go in the old crate :D

It did when it left the factory. :D

What's the recommendation on how often to use this, and how much each time? Could be tempted to try it out :rubchin:

Steve

I "shot" treats 20 litres of fuel. You can run a double dosage or only put it in every few tankfuls so there doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rules on using it :D I tend to let convenience and my pocket dictate

Chris

Is this a good place to mention that high citane numbers reduce white smoke and engine noise, but also reduce top end power?

At Trax this year, I was speaking to the people at the Millers stand and they told me about this and one of them was using it in their golf trialling it before general release. Apparently it's good stuff.

Without being funny, they would say it was good wouldn't they? :P

Still tempted to try some out though.

Ken - when you say top end power, where exactly do you mean? Are you saying only really noticeable at 5k revs or something similar?

Steve

I've just used up my Power Plus so I've ordered some of the new stuff to try. Will report back in a few weeks :D

  • 4 weeks later...

Well, as promised, I'm now on my second tank of Millers Power Sport 4 and thought I'd post my initial feelings (based on an initial double dose).

- Definitely pulls harder and more enthusiastically throughout the rev range

- Economy up 2mpg across the tank (was 5mpg but lots of short trips brought the average down)

- A bit less diesel clatter on cold mornings

I've put a regular dose in my new tank and it seems to be pulling much stronger than with the double dose in, although this might just be the ECU adapting to the higher cetane fuel....

Overall, I'd rate it higher than Power Plus, but not sure it's worth almost double the price. I'll see how my opinion changes over the next few tanks :D

Chris

Just fill up with optimax and be done with it!

I tried the Power Plus, can't say I noticed any benefit tbh. For me, the main thing is the detergent properties, but if you use a decent fuel anyway you get this regardless!

I've reguarly been using Power Plus in the Fabia (& also in my old Ibiza 110 TDI), so might give the Power Sport 4 a try when my current bottle of Power Plus runs out (pretty soon).

Chris,

did you get a crate or just a couple of bottles?

Quite keen to try some of this myself...should work in a 2.0ltr pd...with DPF.

Optimax, Tom?! Are you mad

I only got a single bottle of the stuff to try it, but I believe it's available on eBay stores with greater discounts the more you buy. It says on the bottle it's suitable for Euro IV cars with DPF's so I can't see any problem, but might be worth consulting them before buying it just to be sure as their old stuff was allegedly not suitable for PD engines :D

Do I smell a group buy on the cards? ;)

Chris

Say I use this with every tankful (45 litres), how long will one of those bottles last?

I'm going to try this new stuff out, just seeing how much I should buy in at once :)

Steve

IIRC, these bottles are 500ml and a 20ml dose treats 20 litres of fuel, so I usually pop in 2.5 doses for 50 litres of fuel. By my dodgy maths, the bottle would then last me 10 tanks of diesel or about 5000 miles :D

As Chris says. Works out to 1ml per litre, and it doesn't do any harm to up the dose by 50% sometimes. ;) So at the correct dosage, a bottle lasts 500 litres of fuel, which is over 100 gallons, which is a lot of miles.

Thanks guys.

Yep - thanks for the info

Dilution ratio 1000 to 1

i.e. 500ml will treat 500 litres - 11 tankfuls at 45litres per tank.

Can't vouch for the newer version but have used the Diesel Powerplus for 15 years or so (in private-hire TDs) so that equates to around 400+ k.

Definite benefits - car without used to feel like an old slug (even my wife used to know if it was in the tank or not).

For it to be so noticeable I'd say there must be an increase of around 10% in power (unfortunately you do tend to use the power so quite often the economy is not improved or as improved as it could be). Also all my cars used to fly through MOT emissions with flying colours - tester and 'my mechanic' used to be staggered at the results. He now recommends it to everyone.

I have recommended it to countless people - all have said how good it was.

'People' say you won't feel the results until 400 + miles are up - I say you'll feel it within several miles, car runs quieter, pulls better, less smoke.

So, if this stuff is anything like the old - BUY BUY BUY

What optimax diesel? ;)

What optimax diesel? ;)

Whatever the name, I mean the premium diesel at 99p/litre from BP or Shell. :)

I'll give this new stuff a go.
