Temperture alarm sounds on startup

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my first post.

Every time I first start my Octavia the temperture alarm sounds, I switch the engine off and then start again and it happens again, I switch off then restart and for the rest of the day there's no problem no matter how many times I stop and start. Can anyone help.

Either a coolant temp sensor or a faulty header tank, pretty well covered on here.

Could it be coolant low level warning as well? Once it has got warm, the level rises a fraction and thus prevents the sensor from detecting a low fluid level? Only a guess though!

When it is colder in the morning this is common

Just check the level , if it is low top it up but only to the max mark

If it is ok it will be the sensor in the expansion tank

It means a new tank , but hey they are not THAT expensive

yeah mine did this as well. i rang the dealer and he said that it flashes when the coolant is too low so as insructed i topped it up a bit and hey presto. not done it since!

Had this problem with mine too a few weks ago.

Tried topping it up, but didn't work.

Turned out that the concentration of Antifreeze/coolant in there was too weak.

I think the sensor works on conduction through the fluid or something so cold temp & a week mix makes it think there is no fluid, once you've warmed the fluid up abit by running the engine for a few mins its all fine again - I'm happy to be told i'm talking rubbish here if thats the case!

Believe you can get a concentration tester from Halfrauds for a few quid to check with if topping us doesn't work.

Looking at my coolant bottle, I thought it was just two metal wires that stick into the tank... and the electrical conductivity of pure water and water with antifreeze in it is not going to make great change....

I had the coolant tank replaced on both my Octavias for this very reason - faulty sensor in tank.

i had this problem recently got the bottle for about £8 from an audi dealer fitted it myself in about ten minutes which i was impressed with cos i'm a cack handed retard if i can do it so can you
