Which service does my VRS need?!

Featured Replies

Guys, I'm confused about which service my car needs, and the dealers are making the situation even more confusing! The history of my car is as follows...

May 2005 - First Registered by first owner

May 2006 - Bought by myself with 3,300 miles on the clock and serviced by dealer

Dec 2006 - Now approaching 13,000 miles

I presume as I've covered nearly 10,000 miles since the previous service, the next service is due? If so, does anyone know what service it is? I've called several dealers, some refer to major/minor services, others refer to 10,000 and 20,000 miles services, and others refer to 1st/2nd/etc service? WTF?!

One dealer quoted

Hi Mate

1st service minor service or 10k service is all the same

2nd service , major service or 20k is the same

I would do a minor service and we would charge £114 + VAT for that

Brake fluid too I would do

That is required every 2 years

I know your car is not 2 years old , but if it takes another 6 months for the next 10k miles it will be over

I would not let the brake fluid go over 2 years

This is just every 2 years and mileage is not applicable for it

Go with a VAG speciallist as their prices will be cheaper

That will not invallidate any warranty available on the car either

Hope that has helped a bit

 It is a bit expensive I agree.

Try different Soda dealers, they do vary.

I paid

Ahhh, what you have there is the "Magic inspection"

Part of the service is a full 1 year or 10k inspection of the whole car and it puts the cost up. if it is a year since the last service then it should be done as it's part of the shedule.

If it's under a year you can just specify the lube service it should be under

If you're going to hit 23k miles before next May, then you can just have a lube service (oil change) and defer the annual inspection and brake fluid change until the 23k service. If you're not, then best get a full service done (inc annual inspection and brake fluid) at this service.

Certainly ring around a few dealers and bounce quoted prices off them, or go with an independent specialist....

The car will be due an annual inspection service in May 2007.

Right now, it needs a 10K oil change service, that's all.
