Accessing rear of head unit

Featured Replies

I'm trying to install a new Sony head unit. I need to get underneath and behind the unit to pull some of the wires, connectors, aerial booster etc back out of the way as they are preventing the unit from sliding in fully. Never having done this before, could someone please explain how to get access below ?

Easiest way is from above, IIRC on the fabia its a case of removing the centre air vents which just need gently prising out.

remove the tray underneath the radio slot (din slot) this can be done by simply pulling. then on your sony the harness is on the left and the ariel connector is on the right,

route the ariel and booster to the right and the iso power and speaker blocks to the other side.

then re-fit the tray and fit the facia adaptor and cage.

then plug the sony harness onto the iso blocks and make sure nothing can prevent the radio from sliding in.

then connect the radio up and give it a nice gentle push till it clicks in.

ps Dont use an autoleads pc2-69-4 adaptor lead, it will take up too much room, instead just swap the red and the yellow wires on the sony harness. does the same job in keeping the memory live correct.

The tray under the radio comes out after the radio so I don't know that you could get it out beforehand.

I would lower the glovebox myself, it'll give you good access to achieve what you want.

Just take the vents out, works for me

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Just finished the job in 5 minutes by pulling out the tray underneath - a doddle really.
