Recently read somewhere, cant remember whether it was on this forum or a magazine, but some bloke stated that the new Octy II Diesel would murder the octy II 2.0 TFSI between 30mph & 80mph? Surely this cant be the case!?? :confused:

I don't think murder would quite be the word I'd use. I'm sure it would be pretty close. Would be helpful if you knew the source of the findings of course.

Between 30 and 80mph, I'd say the TFSi would do that 2nd and 3rd gears, whenas the PD170 might just stretch that in 3rd all the way. As such, it'd be close . . . I reckon from 30 to 110 would be more interesting.

30-80 is also a pretty strange range to test over too. 30-50 and 50-70 are more common, and more useful to know about as well.

I just wish in-gear acceleration times were printed and available more often, you hardly ever see them in magazines. Far more useful than 0-60 and top speed quotes IMO.

Has anyone heard of any tests where the New VRS Diesel races against the New VRS TFSI from standing start over a quarter mile or to 130mph or whatever and information recorded on the speed of each car going through each gear and which pulled better? If not it would be a quite interesting experiment.

I've seen a PD170 Passat on the rollers. Made bang on stock power IIRC.

Interesting to see in your link Gaff that the Octy is slowest to 60 but fastest 30 - 50.

Also has the best brakes yet is the 2nd heaviest there.

Dunno if that would be true for mine...it seems a little vague compared to other vRS I driven, and their owners thought likewise of mine.

Hi Gaff, got the PM thanks. Will keep it in mind after i purchase. Definately goin petrol now after seeing and hearing the video on that link above, what a note!! thanks btw, two good links . Would that silver vrs have been mapped do you think as i think i counted 0-60 second lower than 7.3, hard to tell i suppose? Neway, Just home from a bit of go-karting. Lets just say id better get a bit of practice in if im goin to purchase, remap and rally one of them wee bad boys, or instead of eating tyre ill be eating hedgerow!!
