Uprated engine stabiliser for 1.8T?

Featured Replies

Anyone know if there is an uprated (or even adjustable length?) engine stabiliser link available for 1.8T engines? (the link connects the bottom of the engine to subframe to minimise engine movement)

I have a 2.5" downpipe fitted which runs quite close to the top of the steering rack heatshield plate which covers the rack and pipes; there's reasonable clearance - about 20mm i guess - but when the engine gets loaded as the drive is taken up it moves enough for the pipe to contact the heatshield.

The stabiliser bushes seem plenty soft enough really, allowing a fair amount of movement, the car is a 2002 vRS at 84K miles. Now it may be the one that's on there has reached the end of it's useful life and a standard replacement is all that's required?

The angle of the photo exagerates how close it looks, but you get the picture..

Any experiences or advice welcome!

You need to get some Powerflex poly engine mounts if your concerned about clearance, the standard items are proper sh!t to be honest.

The pic below shows where they go, the kit consists of two poly mounts, and can be fitted easily in 10/15 mins. I got mine from either Forge or Awesome can't remember and only cost about

The DogBone is what I think you need -

Do you just press out the old bushes or is it a new complete bone you buy?

Just the bushes I imagine, it's only £19

Cheers guys! looks like a simple solution then

found a few similar responses on the Golf forums from people with just the same problem :)

Poly bushes are awful, tried neuspeed & powerflex hated both, way too much vibration, the best solution is the full replacement EIP Dogbone that uses harder rubber bushes, no extra vibration and reduces wheelhop and movement brilliantly! you can get it from Westec for about

Just had some of the new Vibra Tech mounts fitted. NVH has gone up alot, but I'm hoping they're going to bed in a bit. I was going to fix a rattle on my dash, but it doesn't seem to matter now as everything else is vibrating. On a positive side, power is put down better and handling has improved.
