New octavia standard stereo

Featured Replies

My boss just ordered me a new 2.0tdi elegance dsg estate, iwas wondering if the standard stereo that comes with it will be able to play mp3s? Or did i have to specify that i wanted mp3 upgrade?

If it does play mp3s, will it play them in the cd headunit and the 6disc multichanger in the boot?

If it is coming from the factory then you should get MP3. Not in the changer though.

i think the dealer has got 1, 2 weeks delivery.

So only headunit then?

I thought there were stream and stream mp3 models?

It should be "Stream" Head Unit as standard. It does play MP3 but only in HU, not from changer. If you order "Audience" HU it accept 6 CD's straight to the HU and all can be MP3. I have Audience and it works that way. Audience also comes with "Sound System" which means 12 loudspeakers and amplifier. I think it's worth.

If it's 1 - 2 weeks delivery then it will be in UK stock. If it was built after May 2006 then it should have a Stream MP3 Headunit.

boss wouldnt let me upgrade stereo!

Does it have id3 tagging for mp3s, so u can see track information such as artist, song name etc?

Will it read mp3s that are organised into folders or directories like a normal mp3 player?

Yes, MP3 gives whole that information and yes, you can organize them into folders.

The way I do it is:

- You can give the name to CD itself but it doesn't metter as it wouldn't be recognized

- Organize your songs into folders and give a name to each folder. It will read them and show the name

- Make sure you give the name to each song and artist name

Then, HU will let you choose what to display:

Example:

File name (Something.mp3), Title (Something), Artist (My Band) or Folder (The Best of My Band)

You'll have arrows to move between folders

Its gonna be a long 2 weeks wait!

Anyone know why it takes 2 weeks if they've got it in stock at the dealers? is it registration etc?

thanx mannyo, ill just have to wait

Another problem you'll find is the speakers are crap to put it bluntly. I've tried asking around to see if the Bose ones from a written off Audi A3 would fit but nobody seems to know (there was a set on e-bay about a month ago but they looked a bit suspect). There is a Blaupunkt head unit which fits, has DAB radio, and still has all the display functions ie climate control etc, a dealer will sell you one for £550 but you'd get one from an online car audio specialist for about half that.

I find the standard speakers fine in my elegance, but maybe thats down to my musical taste.

Its the woodstock DAB 54. I've just had a look on the 'net and its retailing at about £275 (exactly half of what you're local friendly main dealer will sell you one for!!)

Just priced up some new speakers at about £300 for 8 (4 main ones and 4 tweeters) So it looks like the project's going ahead.

Would be interested in anyone else who's put new ice in a MK2 Octy

Link to spec for head unit:

Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB54

What model is it?

Umm, do you need a surrounding face plate to fill the gap? It looks like a standard DIN height to me, and the ad doesn't really cover whether the unit will display (e.g.) the rear parking sensor graphics....

... having probed the site further, it -looks- as if you can buy a variety of bits to fit a blaupunckt as a total replacement for the factory fit. Looks like a better option than to waste money on anything coming from skoda...

It doesn't display any parking sensor info. The parking sensors still work, but no graphics - no real loss.

It depends on how far you want to go with integration. If you just get the Skoda DIN facia kit, you get basic wiring adapter with the faceplate, but this won't give integrate with multi-function steering wheel remote, headlights or auto volume based on speed etc. - for that you will need the Blaupunkt VW CANBUS adapter.
