Window Wipers Not Working!

Featured Replies

On the way into work this morning, my window wipers stopped working!

When I pull the stalk to wash the screen the rear wiper comes on and the fronts do nothing, I can't hear the motor running for the washers either, could this simply be a fuse gone? I've not got the manual to see what runs off which fuses....

If it is the fuse could someone tell me which so that I can go get one! Where is the fuse box? If not what could it be?

Thanks

Tom

Open the drivers door and you'll see a panel on the end of the dashboard that is normally hidden by the door. The fuse box is under it.

Also check that your bonnet is properly shut ;)

Bah, beat me to it :(

Thanks for the replies, I'm pretty sure the bonnet is shut as I haven't opened it since last Thursday but will double check. Also I will check the Fuse box to see if Fuse 41 has blown which appears to the one related to the wipers! Still doesn't explain why the rear goes when trying to wash the front!

Front and rear wipers on the same fuse?

Front and rear wipers on the same fuse?

no they are seperate according to the info on Stu's site.

Just checked the Fuse which seems to be fine, the Motors not running for the washers either, can't seem to find a fuse relating to this unless its the same as the wiper?

Also opened and shut the bonnet which hasn't helped. Is there a sensor/switch under the bonnet that cuts them out?

Have put a call out to the Local dealer so am currently awaiting there response!

Just to update the Dealer wasn't sure on the Problem so the car is now in with them!

First real dealings with the dealer (Vindis, Woolpit) but they were very helpful, managed to sort me out with a courtesy car, considering the short notice is pretty good, the car will be serviced whilst there too (due in the next 1000 miles).

Don't suppose you got anywhere with it did you?

Missus has just had this exact some problem and the car was pretty icey this morning.

I was going to speculate that maybe there is a blown relay? Does the wipers and washer motor share a relay anywhere? I've not long had her on the phone and I'm going to have to diagnose it in 15 minutes before it gets dark after all the shops in walking distance have closed.

Oh dear. I had exactly the same problem yesterday :(

Fuse is fine. And when I pull the stalk for front washer or move up / down for front wipe, the rear one kicks off.

I see the OP still hasn't come back with a reply either.

But, I asked the question, incase it was common or seemed to be, on a car maintenance newsgroup.

Speculative responses appear to be, either the stalk switch itself, or the CCM unit, apparently above the pedal.

I have VAG-Com, so I might need to check that out if I can find the port on the Fabia.

The problem was the Fuse, there are two relating to the Wipers, I think the second one is in position 15, the main one is in Position 41. Check them both.....

Also this problem caused the rear wiper jet to become detached so I got a leak in the boot, just something to double check on, the Dealer fixed this under warranty....

Cheers for the update. Will don my snow jacket and have another look

OK, Fuse 15 it was

Will have to make a trip down to halfrauds as I don't have any spare fuses of the small variety

Feel a bit of an idiot not spotting this now  Good to know for next time

I thought I had checked all the fuses but will have another check.

Likewise, fuse 15 for the win.

Normal service has been resumed and she can have her car back.

I seem to have set an airbag fault code pulling the wrong fuse at some point, but VAGcom sorted that and it hasn't come back on since.

Has anyone considered that the common problem may be that the wipers had frozen to the glass, thus blowing the fuse?

It could well be, as she had cleared the screen with warm water before hers went.

but the problem is, the fuse that is blowing the 5amp washer pump fuse, not the 15amp wiper motor fuse. The wiper motor fuse doesn't blow, yet 90% of wiper funtion, and 100% of washer function is gone. That is what twigged people about the washer fuse. But why does it affect the wipers.

And yes, proper subzero mix screen wash solution in liquid form, not frozen plain water in the washers.

It is the washer freezing at the pump and blowing fuse 15. I had this happen on tuesday morning and after much grief trying to get the dealer in Plympton (IML) to have a look, they won't for 2 hours! and I had 200 miles to make to a meeting, I got the AA out and they are absolutely brilliant. Had the fault diagnosed off their database of previous faults and fixed inside 20mins. The man was a complete star and I was so happy to have wipers back!

Full marks to the AA and nil points to IML who were useless in the level of help they were prepared to offer a Skoda driver in desperate need.

Guess what, I had exactly the same problem yesterday. I assumed it would be some Skoda electronic control PCB gone west, not a simple fuse.

However I checked fuse 15 twice (I had previously "checked" every fuse in the fuse box) and Bingo it had blown. Now the wipers are working we can go shopping (Hmmmmmmm).

Joined this forum specifically to say thanks to all who updated this link as the knowledge I gained has saved me a bloody fortune, which my wife says we can go and spend on her new dress instead 8-((

Why is that as soon as the wipers are fixed it stops raining?????

Thanks again.

Well I took the car to the dealer as the handbook confused me with left hand drive diagram and also my blooming luck it started to rain! thought get it to the garage and get it sorted as I did fancy a drive to my local maplin in the rain! Arrived at Skoda and the lassie on the service desk came and went to me it's the fuse.

She came out and changed the fuse still no luck so she went to fetch a mechanic (who turned out to be from the youth club I used to attend and who I went to school with) and he drove it into the workshop and told us to have a coffee where I got chatting to a guy waiting on his Vrs to get sorted who had the same problem as us the wipers had just packed up!.

I also informed this guy to join Briskoda for advice to save himself some cash.

Now my question is: If this happens a lot can Skoda not recall the cars for a fix? The lassie at Skoda certainly knew what fuse to take out and replace and she said this was a common problem on the fabia.

Thumbs up to Chatham Skoda Edinburgh, better customer experiance today compared to last time I took it in.
